EN2002 exam

Postby Nimby on Sun May 14, 2006 6:40 pm

I know I really should've gone to the last lecture of the semster, but I couldn't bring myself to listen to Barbara Murray. Just wondering if anyone knows what the format of the exam is. Is it the usual section of analysis, then an essay? Also is it on all the texts we've done this semester, or just from Northanger Abbey onwards?
Thanks.

1st section: close reading (either Orlando or Northanger Abbey I think) 2nd section, a more general question in which you have to refer to 2 other texts. And Yeah its all the ones we've done this 1/2 term (minus pope, burns and chaucer which we did for the essay)

Hope that helps (there are past papers online if you want to look at the types of questions). Btw whats wrong with Murray?

Oh dear, I hope Kylie doesn't see this thread in her current condition!

I always found Barbara Murray to be a good lecturer and a very caring tutor to boot. (One of the few who is interested in pastoral issues and actually enjoys interaction with students.)

Hmm - this mention of Northanger Abbey and Orlando in reference to EN2002 is rather worrying. The former appeared in EN1003 and the latter in EN1004. I sincerely hope that the School of English are prepared to teach a few other books...

I don't know, maybe it's just me. She just annoyed me with her moaning about people being late, and banging desks. I found her lectures a bit dull as well. But thanks for letting me know about the exam, clears things up a bit.

I think it *is* just you.

Barbara Murray is an amazing lecturer and tutor- with several years of experience. I'd complain if people were late and banged desks when I was trying to give a lecture, too, because both of those things are discourteous and rude.

She is a rare type indeed- an academic who cares about her work AND her students. One of the kindest people I've ever come across; St Andrews wouldn't be St Andrews without her.

If you couldn't be bothered to listen, you don't deserve to pass.
She's got a heart of gold.

I was thinking exactly the same thing as you. I thought that EN1003 & EN1004 were new modules, so I presume we'll also be having a changed EN2002? Maybe I'm wrong...

I didn't mind Murray that much, but the bitching at 'late' students was pretty damn unwarranted. They were just barely late by the lecture theatre's clock, which itself was about 5 minutes fast. But oh well. Good luck on exams!

and is the Close Reading section definitely restricted to NA and Orlando?

I had Barbara Murray for my tutor and I hated it, I found her soo hard to listen to, and I personally cannot stand it when she lectures. I just fall asleep, so No Nimby you aren't alone! :P
