Does anyone know what band(s) are playing the Union in fresher's week this year?

Remember Aberfeldy from last year?

Bloody hell, they were so bad I left and went to Marmaris with a group of friends.

I thought they were so bad, that they made their mediocre support act look like The Who.

The Marmaris was better?

They must have been bad.

No. Hopefully a good one, not some x factor reject. Although the bigger bands charge really high fees therefore it can be hard to make it viable. For example (perhaps not one that would interest you), Girls Aloud would charge £20k for a performance- with venue one's max capacity of 1000, it would be unlikely 1000 people will be willing top pay £20 to see them play like 2 songs. Oh the dilemmas!

I say we get rid of the organisers, as whoever hired the call on me girls obviously have no clue about music.

Girls Aloud wouldn't charge 20k. You can get some great bands for about 2-5k, depending on how well known they are etc. If anyone wants to know who to contact, send me an e-mail through my profile and I'll pass on the details.

Get the Flying Matchstick Men back to play again! Really enjoyed their gig when they played at the union earlier on this year, thought their frontman was hilarious.

And I've heard their support act was The Paddingtons. I've seen The Paddingtons live, so they must have been pretty bloody atrocious.

Queens in Belfast has Karl Kennedys band for their freshers week - despite the fact Chris Marks told me he wasnt coming to the UK!!

All i can say is the acts better be as good as that!

Aberfeldy are alright.

We had Snow Patrol way back in 2003.

Sorry for not answering the post's question.

£5000, plus VAT, plus rider = £6-7000

Venue1 has max capacity of 1000 for a music gig. Are people going to be willing to pay around £7 per ticket?

You could get 85% of those bands to play in St. Andrews for £5,000 or less.

And would you fill the venue?

or even half fill it?

£7 is very reasonable considering it would normally cost about £15 for the tickets. Okay so it's venue 1 but £7 is still half what it would normally cost.

Sorry but anyone who thinks £7 in fresher's week is expensive is out of touch with reality.

Realistically we could get a decent band who have sold a few records at a price where £7 would be a bargain (especially as there's no booking fee).

Not that it's likely or anything, but possible.

What about a jazz band.

Young man - "Ye, jazz"
Old man - "What's that you say about jazz boy?"
Young man - "Jazz man, it's scary, freaky jazzy and snazzy"
old man - "You don't know nothing about jazz boy".
young man - "Yes i do man i am the jazz man man"
old man - "!oh well show me your jazz skill's"
young man - "yeh jazz".

Telephone - "ring ring"
Old man - "saved by the bell bitch"

Space were good, so were Mull Historical Society.

You could try getting one of them back?

[hr]

Funky flunky munky...
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

Mull Historical Society have split.

Yes, I know that Colin Macintyre is MHS, all on his own, but he's split up.
