Is it detrimental to my masculinity that I know what you're talking about?

Yes, it is!
But Jamie is, nonetheless, rather fanciable.. And be-kilted. And with lots of hair. And he can survive in the middle of nowhere. And make his own whisky...

Yes, you should.

Random generalisations on threads like these are the life-blood of the Sinner.

(I am not sure how I managed to post half of what I wrote, but I have now restored the post.)

But since you're using his formal name shouldn't it be James, not Jamie? Jamie's just what they call him by...

Depends which Richard Curtis film (I'm not into Chick flicks), but otherwise ... ;-)

There's a Welshman living next door, holding a Richard Curtis film in one hand, a kilt in the other and covered in chocolate. Will this do?

Damn. My pedantic tendencies started out tongue-in-cheek, but apprarently they've progressed to being entirely subconscious.

That, or someone is entirely too touchy about a semi-serious question... :-P

Never worked for me. And I write fucking excellent letters.
God only knows what women want, but I believe they find attractive:
- Ambition and achievement - success in general (possibly money as an extension of this)
- Being sensitive/understanding about their problems*
- Ability to make them laugh
- Looking reasonably tidy (not necessarily having a great deal in the way of good looks, but scrubbing up decently).

I think being passionate about something (unless it's something extremely tedious) goes a long way to impressing a girl - that said I think the things that will first attract a girl and the things that will keep her tied to a man (or, indeed, woman) over the long term are subtly different. As indeed are women, but I think variation on the above four will stem from their own personalities and interests.

*A note on that, while it occurs to me - one of the most potent and difficult forms of loneliness is not having anyone who understands you and cares about you to share your problems with - i.e. someone who will make you feel better. Providing this if it is absent or poor can be a very strongly bonding experience.

Makes a change :P
I'm not saying that a well (preferably hand) written letter will not seem attractive but it's not going to win a woman on its own.

Yeah but no but....I mostly agree. But the scrubbing up thing not neccessarily true, having messy long hair and not giving a fuck is more attractive. Passion and genuine interest in whatever is attractive unless it's just interest in money or success for it's own sake. Then, it's boring.

Women want exactly the same things as men want. This woman wants a man who will guess that's she's tired but hungry and make her poached egg on Wheaten toast. And she has one! Woohoo!

Oh no! That's not the first time I've been corrected regarding that word. I must have a mental blank on it.
