Volunteering for orientation week

Postby Odysseus on Sun Aug 20, 2006 10:55 am

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to sign up for this year's freshers week? I've tried the St Andrews website and I can only find stuff from last year. Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers! :-)

Sure - I'm volunteering as well although a lot of us have been signed up since May (so might be late) - still i think they could be looking for people. E-mail Maggie Winton on mw11 as she is co ordinating volunteers.

Yeah, I did. i think what they do is work out what they have the right number of volunbnteers for and what they have too many/too few for then they might reallocate a bit.

Yeah I am the same as well. There is to be a meeting on the 15th of sept, so i guess thats when we all get told what we are doing etc. Although i am told that everyone that signs up will be needed to do something, so I wouldnt worry that u might end up with nothing to do!

That's right. There's bound to be something for you to do - even if there isn't, they'll probably ask you to be on a reserve list of people they'll phone in case of emergency. Apart from that, if you're not busy at any stage you could pretty much just pop into the Union and ask for work - there's always something that needs done.

It's excellent to see the interest in being Orientation Week Volunteers. I'm thrilled loads more people want to get involved and help make the new students feel at home. The best thing to do, as has been said, is to e mail Maggie Winton on mw11@st-andrews.ac.uk, and she will add you to the list. Then you will be sent a link to a webpage where you can sign up for events. We still need lots of volunteers, so please do get involved. Oh, and if you see me during Orientation Week and suddenly get the urge to volunteer - feel more than free! It's going to be an excellent week, but it won't work without loads of people getting behind it. Only 3 and a bit weeks to go!!!

The Sinner is not responsible for the events ensuing from telling Lee Kane that you volunteer.

Ach, it'll be fine.

On a sidebar, it would be nice to see a few more of the Association representatives doing their bit for Freshers Week this year; after all, it's part of your duties.

Before you go to this website and fill it in, please e mail Maggie (mw11) and tell her that you want to be a volunteer. We need to register your details so we can keep track of who everyone is during the week! Also, by volunteering you will automatically be signed up to the Millenniun Volunteer (MV) programme, meaning you get recognitions for what you do!

Thanks

Actually, as far as I'm aware, the current sabbatical team has more or less completed the preparations for freshers week already.

You're right Will. Everything is coming along really well, and I for one am mega excited about Orientation Week. I can't wait for the students to get back and for there to be so much going on. We now have over 200 volunnteers, so a massive thank you to everyone who has volunteered already. If you would still like to get involved it's not too late, just e mail Maggie on mw11@st-andrews.ac.uk and sign up. You know you want to - the t-shirts are cool!!!!

Got confirmation E-mails through :)

By the way, does anyone know where you get the t-shirts?

The t-shirts will be given out to you as part of your orientation pack, at the Volunteers Meeting on the Friday evening before the week begins. They arrived in the building today, and look really good.

There will be another meeting for volunteers on the Saturday. if you cannot make the Friday meeting, please contact Maggie on mw11 and let her know, and she will be able to tell you what best to do. We won't be able to give out packs before the 15th though.
