Could you send me St. A's sand and sea?

Postby BasilSeal on Wed Nov 01, 2006 3:54 pm

I left St Andrews more years ago than I care to recall, and still love the place, especially since I'm now an ex-pat in the US.

This might be weird, but I'd like to have a small piece of St. Andrews in my house and office. So, I was wondering if anyone would indulge me here by collecting a bit of sand and sea water from West Sands or Castle sands in two test tubes or something similar, and sending them on to me in the US? Obviously, I'd cover all costs here, and you'd have my eternal gratitude!

If so, either leave a message here, or email me at: autonomia at mailcity.com

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure US Customs would flag that as a potential problem. I've heard of less weird things being rejected by them.

I do the same- I carry a shell from West Sands in my handbag at all times now I'm in Oxford- just for good luck! :)

Sorry I can't help, just thought I'd chime in!

The water might be a problem, but the sand should be okay. When I'm a bit free in reading week I wouldn't mind scooping up some sand.

I too would like a little piece of St Andrews in my office. Therefore I would appreciate:
1 x All-Night Bakery sausage roll
1 x pint of Tennants from the Union (as flat and watered down as possible please)
1 x golf ball dredged from the Eden Estuary a good power slice's distance away from the 4th tee of the Eden course
1 x beer trophy of dubious worth and utility

much obliged.

I thought of US Customs, too... and then decided a don't ask, don't tell policy would be a good one! But there's always the risk of leakage... so sand and a shell of pebble or so might be a better bet!

I'm also in Oxford and I have a stone from the beach in my handbag right now - I wonder how many more of us there are?!

I'm in Bristol now and carry a stone from West Sands in my coat pocket (well actually its in my coat lining as I have holes in my pockets... not being a student anymore hasn't meant I can afford a new coat! - damn the tax man!)
