Cheeap and getting wasted has to be white cider.

Tennants. Tastes like pish and costs about the same too.

...but then again, that is only my opinion.

Cheap beer, not cheap tonic wine.

The hint is in the name of the thread.

Morrison's 7.5% 3(?) litres of white cider.

Only £2.99 for a fat lot of slightly stronger pish.

things like tennents super, or Tesco own brand, absolutely vile. Normal Tennents is fine, certainly nicer than carling or stella!

Meh, I'm Scottish and I prefer Carling. I actually prefer my Tennents warm, Draught Tennents feels like you're swallowing sandpaper.

Stella is piss, unless it's very very well chilled.

Nastro Azzurro... avoid! I wouldn't use that stuff for chemical weapons, let alone drink it.

Carling is piss. I've spent years working behind a bar and Carling has always been the cheapest lager available. It's as flat as ditchwater and tastes rank.

Tennents is an acquired taste, but I've got used to it now and quite like it - especially over lunch. Tennents Super is just fantastic. I shall be stocking up again to take them south of the border for Christmas.

Fosters is my fave lager - yes the Aussies laugh at us for drinking it, but its the smoothest to drink and it makes a superior Turbo.

I'm partial to the odd pint or 2 of Wife Beater.

Cheap Scottish beer, yeah Tennents. There is a myth circulating that if you go into a bar and ask for "A pint of pish" you get served Tennents.

And cheap cider: white lightning! rofl

Tesco own brand lager is ok, if you are slightly wasted already.

Tramp. How can you think that??

One can of that stuff is officially binge drinking, clocking at 4.2 units. I 4 cans for a laugh, none of us 4 could finish half of that stuff, tasted like shit.

I'm teetotal and I have to just ask this stupid question - why do you guys drink this stuff if it tastes like pish?

If you had to describe what beer tastes like to a non drinker - how would you describe it? Does it taste like Marmite or what? (And dont tell me it tastes like pish cos to be honest I dont drink pish so wouldn't know what the taste is.....)

Because it's cheap. Thankfully, I'm getting paid now.

Then you need to exercise your imagination.

Beer has a unique flavour that is indescribable to a palette that has not mastered it - it tastes like nothing else. I racked my brains trying to come up with a suitable approximation, and the closest I came was this: imagine you take freshly fallen leaves and a sack-full of new potatoes and park a car on top of it. The resulting juice will taste approximately like beer. It's a kind of vegetably kind of taste, but more musty (from the yeast, I guess). You really have to try it to understand.

...but then again, that is only my opinion.

Beer, whether lager or bitter, has a very bitter taste to it, almost like a very strong black coffee, but lager is sweeter and lighter. Depending on the brew, it can have overtones of other flavours, including fruit, different hops, malts etc.

Tennents Super - what's so undrinkable about it? I can honestly say it doesn't have much more of an effect on me than any regular strength lager, and the taste is alright.

correct me if I'm wrong, but seeing as McEwans lager died a death a few years ago, Tennents (not Tennants) is the only Scottish lager, so this thread is kind of pointless....

I regularly buy McEwan's Export, but it's not really the same.
