Best Director thread

Bit of a crap choice. Why is Sam Raimi on there? Especially when some really obvious directing-legends seem to be missing - Francis Ford Coppola perhaps?

There are lots of amazing directors out there, hard to pick "the best" - Ang Lee, David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky, Lars von Trier, Ingmar Bergman....

It's not a thread it's a poll. [/pedanticism] Anyway, Spielberg wins every time with me.

Peter Jackson's not there either, and LOTR was amazing, but then again King Kong was the definition of Shite, so this must be his punishment.

Also a very Anglo (language)-centric list. Where are the foreign directors? Kurosawa? Fellini? Bergman? Zhang Yimou? Miyazaki?

Michael Bay? Really? Who the hell put him on the list? That man has been responsible for some of the most stereotypically turgid dross to have been shat out of Hollywood in quite some time.

For crying out loud people! If you don't want to vote for any of the options choose the last one! You all know there aren't enough options to please everyone.

Michael Bay is a bit crap though...

Choice is subjective. Of course there won't be enough options for everyone to be happy.

Plus people are never happy. Whinge, whinge, whinge.

BTW, anyone who voted for Spielberg - take a look at his filmography and have a rethink. The last half decent film he did was almost a decade ago, and there's an awful lot of other dross on that list that I'd forgotten about too (Hook anyone?).

Steven Soderberg! And many mentioned already on this thread. Spielberg - good but not near the best.

Peter Jackson gets a special prize for managing to make the most BORING books in the world into not-too-boring films.

I agree with Tim Burton though. And lack of foreign directors. They should be there

Because he directed the Evil fucking Dead. And if it wasn't for Sam Raimi there would be no Bruce Campbell films. Philistine.

Uh.. right. Cause "the Evil fucking Dead" is such a masterpiece of film-making.

I'm sorry but one cult classic does not a good director make.

You shouldn't write things like that, it's dangerous: I nearly choked with laughter.
