Secondhand Bookshop

Postby Mehmsy on Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:20 am

I'm looking to get rid of a large number of books (mostly fiction novels); all in relatively good condition. Does anyone know a second hand bookshop that'd buy them off me?

Or I suppose I could go and donate them to a charity shop, but that would leave me feeling far too good.

Did they shut Quarto down?

There's a second hand bookshop on market street past Marmarais towards the cathedral. I can't remember the name of it, but it's on the left if you're walking from marmarais. They sell a lot of antiquarian books, but they also sell more recent books so they might buy them off of you.

You can try selling them online. Otherwise I think the one on Market Street is the only second-hand bookshop left (yepp, Quarto shut down last year.) Maybe the guy selling books by the fountain every now and then would want to buy some of them off you? And are there any kinds of flea markets in the town hall or so?

If you're not desperate for the money, why not set them loose into the wild!!!

Yes, *do* bookcross them - there's far too little bookcrossing. going on in his town!

The guy selling books by the fountain is the same guy who sells books on market street. He just sells them outside on weekends with nice weather.

Christ, you really can be an utter cunt at times. The owners, one would have thought, unless there's a major conspiracy against independent bookshops...

He's not being a cunt, he's making a cultural reference. See Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.

Bookcrossing is a cute idea, but I don't think I want to leave 2 boxes worth of books lying around. I'll see this shop on Market Street, thanks for the info!

Edit: On second thought, I might bookcross a few of 'em...

Take a good quality picture of the books, and then start a thread on the trading stuff board. That's what I did. Although I'd recommend either selling them by lot (all, any ten, whatever) instead of individually, and leaving it open for trades.

I love sites like that - I always find it funny to see Glasgwegian written down. Though some of the words I had actually forgotten because I have not used them in a while, I talk differently when I am in St Andrews to try and not confuse people.
