Easter Triduum: Maundy Thursday

7.30pm St James' Church, The Scores.

Mass followed by procession and reposition of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose. Adoration until 11pm.

What exactly does this all mean? What's a "triduum" and a "maundy"? And how exactly does one partake in an "adoration"?

Sorry for my ignorance.

Maundy Thursday is the day on which Christ had his last supper with his disciples, 'Maundy being derived from the Latin for one of Christ's commandments to the disciples. Also known as Holy Thursday.

Triduum is a 3-day period, starting on Maundy Thursday and running through to the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Adoration I'm not so sure about, as the Catholics are funny buggers, but I'm guessing it means general worship - having a bit of a pray and singing a hymn or two.

Lots of details on the wiki page for Maundy Thursday.

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dearrrrrrrrrrrrrr

You may not share our intellect,
Which might explain your disresepct
For all the natural wonders that
Groooooooow around you
So long, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

The world about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve around you.

Dispite those nets and tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

If I had just one last wish I would like a tasty fish
If we could change just one thing, we would have learned to sing
Come one and all
Man and Mammel
Side by side in life's great gene pool

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

Adoration means that the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed and avaliable for people to sit/pray in front of/generally be in the prescence of.

I'm not sure how things are done in St James' but generally adoration is done firstly as a group with a few hymns, communal prayers, perhaps some readings and then as an individual whether that be active prayer, meditation, reading etc.

I hope that helps a bit!
