The game consists of three simple rules.

1) To be aware of the game is to play the game.
2) To be reminded of or to remember playing the game is to lose the game.
3) Losing the game has to be announced publicly (usually causing others around you to lose it, too)

There is no actual way of winning it that way, really, except to completely forget about it and never be reminded of it. But of course that means you'll never know you'll have won, too. [img]littleicons/wineglass1.gif[/img]

The version I learned--and have been playing for about four years now!--is slightly different:

1. If you know about The Game, you're in for life.
2. If you think about The Game, you lose, and you must immediately announce it to those around you, usually by saying "I just lost The Game".
3. Everyone around you has 15 minutes in which to forget about The Game. If they remember The Game after the 15 minute grace period, they must announce their loss and the process begins again.

This version of The Game is sometimes called Harold's Game, as he is believed to have invented it. Irving, a friend of Harold's, added a condition for winning:

4. If you don't think about The Game for an entire year (or longer), and then think about it, you announce your win by saying "I just won The Game".
