Posted from an I-phone

Postby munchingfoo on Mon Sep 17, 2007 5:41 pm

I'm posting on an I-phone in the apple shop - new York.

So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

It's one thing posting from a device that I want badly, but not even being able to spell it right just pisses me off completely!

Still, Steve Jobs is in London as we speak, and shall hopefully be giving us an iPhone UK launch date tomorrow.

I've been hearing the iPhone is utter crap. But I dunno, what do you think of it?

I imagine that that new multitouch gizmo is rather sweet and, being Apple, it looks like it's all rather beautifully packaged together but I'm afraid I'm going to post the usual disclaimer about there not being any decently fast internet connection once away from a wifi hotspot. Also, having seen one or two phones with GPS starting to appear, I would have to say I'll be holding on for one of those. Or maybe an iPhone mark II..

I imagine o2 or whichever network was promised exclusive rights as well must be more than a little peeved now that this new iPod with all the iPhone bits bar the phone is coming out, too.

Oh and, it's true is it not that the phone price won't be subsidised too?

I guess we'll see pretty soon if Mr Jobs is indeed over here ready for the launch.

I am rather jealous still, though.

I think their decision to award an exclusive contract at all was, frankly, a disgrace - in fact I'm surprised the Office of Fair Trading is letting them get away with it, considering how draconian they can be in other, far less deserving cases.

You should have been in Aikmans over the summer - with the amount of American tourists that have been around, I've played with at least 6 different iPhones.

Still, I will not buy one until they go 3G.

And they've given the contract to O2.

I recently got rid of O2, what a totally useless network. Couldn't get decent signal anywhere even in Edinburgh and London and this was with two different phones from two different manufacturers, PAYG was Al Capone style extortion (seriously, 40p per minute to non O2 mobiles) and the "bolt ons" to make it cheaper were pay monthly so you were railroaded into getting a contract anyway as it offered better value for money. O2 is a joke but they're money grabbers so Apple love them.

I'm now on Orange and everything is dirt cheap and I get better reception absolutely everywhere.

Typical Apple pennypinching, give the lucrative contract to the worst network they could possibly give it to.

Well, I'm not too unhappy. £269 for the handset plus £35 per month all in isn't bad. I make so few voice calls as it is that I'll never reach the limit for free minutes, and I live in a city where there are O2 hotspots all over the shop, so this is one user who will be taking full advantage of the unlimited data usage. Yeah, sign me up.

I recently got myself an O2 XDA Orbit, which runs Windows Mobile 6, and it's great. GPS and the resulting SatNav ability are fantastic, as is the 3G.

Who needs an iPhone? This is free on a £40 per month contract or £50 at £35 a month.

True dat. Maddox is always so right somehow.

Before reading that I'd never thought of the iPod like that either.

Oh well, if someone has a webpage about it, I must be wrong! I see the error of my ways and will abandon my liking for Apple's well designed products at once.

I dislike Windows, I like OSX. I dislike Nokia's interface, and I like that of the iPhone. If you want to use Windows/Nokia/whatever, go for it, I honestly don't care. Hell, if you want a tragically self-satisfied webpage, do so. It's really not worth getting all het up about though.

Yes, because if there's one thing you've taught us all during your time on The Sinner it's the virtue of letting things lie and not getting agitated about the little things. Oh, wait...
