Opik resigned as leader of the Welsh Lib Dems this week, although I believe it was over the bitching about said Cheeky Girl rather than in preparation to succeed Ming.

The only reason i'm sorry to see him resign from the lib dem leadership is because i was enjoying seeing the party so far down in the polls, and feel any new leader is (unfortunately) going to do better.
