New dean of science

Postby Maggie on Thu Dec 06, 2007 4:43 pm

So what's the deal with the new dean of science with immediate effect? Was the old one sacked or something?

The University decided to end centuries of tradition and other such nonsense, and thought it would appoint Deans rather than allow their academic peers to elect them. This is progress.

There was a big re-shuffle of the senior management. The old Dean of Science became Vice Principal for Learning and Teaching and the old VP became VP for Governance and Planning (a new post). The University also decided it wanted a Proctor so the Provost of St Leonards took on that position as well.

This probably isn't the right place to mention this - but Ron Piper is so ace.

I have to give my big thumbs up for Chrighton Lang though. Great guy.

I just hope that ive spelled his name right and that he was still dean of science.

It was Philip Winn - equally deserving of thumbs up.

So, what really happened?

In any event the real question is, given that the United College was formed from the amalgamation of St Salvator's and St Leonard's Colleges, but St Leonard's College has now been re-established, why hasn't the rest of the former United College been re-named back to St Salvator's College? The United College just ain't united any more!

Creighton Lang was pro-dean for science... gone off to the university of the highlands and islands now I think, but yes, he was a legend too. Uncle Ron trumps them all though.

Surely Chris Smith trumped them all?
