I've had nothing but praise for it, thank you very much.

But I just criticised you for it.

Thank you Mark, your criticism is much appreciated. Perhaps you could give me some fashion advice seeing as you are such an expert.

I too inherited a trillby. Unfortunately it's just slightly too small for my head. I'd ask if anyone knows anywhere to go to get a hat stretched, as they used to do, but since none of you live even remotely near me, and by that I mean within 1,000 miles, it wouldn't do any good asking.

Lets all wear hats to the bop tomorrow. And then we can judge whether or not people actually have or wear hats.

Cowboy Hats should only be worn by Cowboys. In texas. If they are working.
That is all.

That would be like a Texan saying a Kilt should only be worn on a farm in Scotland. They are part of the cultural history of a place (a much older history than the kilt by the way)and should be treated with the same reverence.
The Cobow Hat + Jeans + Cowboy boots + Bolo
are still worn even among Texas business men and politicians in the largest most bustling cites.

I like my hats. Aside from the ubiquitous baseball caps with Wherever-I-was-when-I-forgot-to-bring-a-hat-with-me blazoned across the front, I have a very good Lawrence of Arabia-style hat from Australia; and a fairly cheap straw hat from Italy with a black band around it (I would love one more like the baddie out of Crocodile Dundee 2). I am now the proud owner of a Nepali topi. So far their main function, apart from saving my receding hairline from solar exposure, is to be placed on top of the bust of Patrick Moore we have in our department. Hats are great.

...then again, that is only my opinion.

I think this is one of the most idiotic things I have read on here in quite a while.

Given that John B Stetson lived from 1830-1906 and there are only a couple of companies making them that are any older that seems like a fairly outlandish claim. And by outlandish, I mean bollocks.

And that makes it good? William Hague wore a baseball cap, it didn't make it right.
