I'm sorry, but it's just not 'fayre'. 'Fayre' is 'fair'.

Wait... where's the expensive singer who was moderately popular for a week in the mid 1990s?

Such a shocking break with tradition...

Except, of course, in St Andrews where "fair" was, and is, more often than not, spelt "fayre".

Oh be quiet David Bean. It's Freshers' Fayre or Societies' Fayre.

Has been, will be.

Perhaps the event is itself a fair, but the way it has always been publicised has been "Fayre".
At least during my time in St Andrews.

Looks like a terrible freshers week so far. It's just all dance events, and some of the worst comedians available who are getting some of the worst reviews available from all over the place.
Hopefully the yet to be revealed Saturday headliner will be good :)

Looks great to me - a much needed change from the previous few years of hypnotists and lame dance acts (6 minutes of Call on Me, anybody? Tiffany, anyone?)

I'd have to agree, that it looks crap.
It seems all nice for those who like dance "music". But for those of us who don't, it seems like the plan would be hope Rock soc put on a good show and overall stay way from the Union. (This is a shame because I love the Union.)

As it stands it looks like 4 or 5 of the 7 nights are turn over to exclusively that.
I mean would it of killed the organisers to of gotten at least some live music with people who can actually play instruments?

I won’t come out and say we should take the organisers out back and have them shoot just yet. I’ll wait until I find out what’s happening on Saturday before I do that.

Rocksoc first year nights usually have to be seen to be believed. As long as they don't do what altsoc did a while back and try to cash in on the big night by charging £5 to get in and as long as they flyer the fuck out of st andrews and as long as they have 2/3 barstaff then... (damn it's hard to let go sometimes)

A night of dance music could be fun but this is taking it a bit far. I'm hoping for a good night at rocksoc and a decent band on the Saturday :)

If things work out as planned, the event on Saturday will be brilliant. Just waiting on confirmation. Keep your ears and eyes open! Hopefully news soon...

I can assure you, I never booked a 'fayre' in my life. There was some wonderful fayre on offer, but it all took place at fairs.

From what i can find online fayre is an archaic spelling of fair, not fare, though it's now sometimes used for both.

Is that incorrect?

Well, according to a page on the Oxford web site, "Generally speaking, a fair is 'a gathering of stalls and amusements for public entertainment', whereas fare is 'a range of food' (Concise Oxford Dictionary, 1999). However, the archaic (15th to 17th century) spelling fayre is confusingly used for both words by those who think it lends 'an historick flavour'."

Saturday=a result of a certain facebook group being set up wanting a certain artist to play if they got 1000 members, perhaps?

Hmm, looks like the lineup is refreshingly new..BUT

As a DJ who works in the union I'm disappointed to see the BOP being labeled as the only time and place for cheese. I worked so hard this past year to try to make the Bop less cheesy and more club-sounding, and by the end of the year we'd been getting some great feedback.
Now the Bop is being branded as a cheese-fest again, which ruins the image that a few of us Bop DJs had tried to create this year.

SHAME!
