The multiplayer was unnecessary. Just tacked on to keep people happy I suppose/sell more copies.

But shame on you Dug for implying Monkey Island, Portal or Half-life are "fail". :o

2) Age of Empires II
3) Civilisation II
4) Wii Sports (Golf)

It was giant fail for listing 4 of the 5 entries as series, and not small series at that.

4 games for monkey island
3 for gabirel knight
5 for quest of glory
6 for Civ (plus 7 expansion sets)
plus the 1 for WoW (and its expansions)

19(+) games then, in a poll where you're supposed to enter into the spirit of things and pick 5 because its difficult.

1: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

It feels less of a game and more a touching story...in which you can choose what's happening. The game gave us Jolee Bindo and HK-47, what's not to like.

2: Sid Meier's Civilisation 2

Perhaps not the best game ever, but I liked it by the bucket. Exceedingly engaging, exceedingly replayable.

3: Homeworld

Now there is an awesome game. One of the most elementary stories I've encountered, but one of the best. Gameplay was pretty damned fun, and a beautiful game to watch!

4: Starcraft

Another fusion of crackin' gameplay and well-detailed storymaking.

5: Command & Conquer Red Alert

I think there's a danger I spent more time playing that than any other game. Such good fun. Shame about the tank-rush aspect of it, but nevermind.

Tank rushing was a matter of preparation. And its existance is better than the alternative. Remember that they took tank rushing out of Tiberian Sun by taking out the tanks.

Over the years I've played entirely too many games and a lot (possibly even most) of those listed here. I'm not proud of this. But lets see if I can list 5 noone else has.

1. Planescape: Torment
2. Street Fighter Alpha 3
3. Thief series.
4. Grim Fandango
5. Vampire: Bloodlines

The word "Ocarina" has not appeared once in this thread thus proving once and for all that no one of the Sinner has any taste.

I wanted to include it but I could more or less put the whole Zelda series down. I do like the first one though, it sorts the men from the boys (women from the girls) and the music is terrific.

Having not played too many computer games, my favourites would have to be (in no order) :

1. Blood (PC)
2. One of the Monkey Island Series (it might be 'Return to...' of 'Curse of...' I have a terrible memory) (PC)
3. Wolfenstein (not the 3D but the old game built on the Doom engine I think) (PC)
4. Final Fantasy IX (PS)
5. Diablo II (PC)

But of course, they are a host of others there such as Quake III Arena (PC), and Timesplitters (PS2) for it's multiplayer mode etc etc. And I don't really play games now since I don't have the time or the attention span and invariably get bored after a few days...

In no particular order and only considering PC games,

1. Multiplayer Battletech
2. Baldur's Gate 2
3. Age of Empires II
4. World War II Online
5. Dragonrealms

Ok, I keep seeing more and more games I forgot.

A revised 5 would have to be:

1) Doom I/II (PC)
2) Streets of Rage (MD)
3)Tenchu (PS)
4) Unreal Tournament GOTY (I used to mod for TeamChaos in ut2k4!) (PC)
5) Blood, or Rogue. I can't decide, but both were a lot of fun and I still play them. (PC)

As far as I'm aware there were no Final Fantasy games after VII. That game reached the pinnacle of gameplay and storytelling, and the paltry offerings that followed it do not deserve their titles.

Also, did someone list Doom 3? The game ridiculed for it's futuristic setting where the protaganist has to wander around with a distinctly 20th century hench torch that runs out of batteries every two minutes. Great.

Also, wii sports GOLF? RandomMusings that wasn't a game it was a publicity stunt designed to show off the Wii-mote.

(FFVII was a lot of fun when you were 13 but you people better not replay it or you're in for a horrible shock! Suddenly it'll be the worst convoluted shit you've ever seen and will turn it off in embaressment.)

I maintained if they ever touched up the graphics to modern standards and didn't fuck with one word of dialogue I'd buy the relevant console to play it on.

As it is although I have a copy with me up here I can't disgrace the 37 inch HD telly with it's pixellated dated-ness, it's too blocky to really care about the characters visually any more and by the time i'd blown up the first Mako reactor in the intro I was already sick of random encounters. Just goes to show, we all have to grow up sometime.
