Does the univeristy have a machine shop or similar somewhere which students can make use of? I want to manufacture a couple of custom designed pieces of aluminium and thought that this might be something worth investigating before I get what will probably be astronomical price quotes from a company like Border Precision. The parts are well beyond my ability to DIY.

There's a shop on the ground floor of Physics, at the back door. I can't imagine they do a lot of externally commissioned work, but it might be worth asking.

Any idea who I'd ask about that? I don't just want to wonder in with some graph paper and a USB stick. I'd rather email somebody, that way I don't embaress myself in person.

There's a machine shop near the Bute medical building as well - just down the steps from the computer lab. I've only been in once, but it did seem like they might have metal lathes etc.
