The Sinner's Profanity Score

There seems to be quite a few angry contributors on The Sinner.

Or is it a case of:

HMS Peccator wrote:Satanas
Bad language or abuse,
I never, never use,
Whatever the emergency;
Though 'bother it' I may
Occasionally say,
I never use a big, big D

Peccatoribus
What, never?

Satanas
No, never!

Peccatoribus
What, never?

Satanas
Hardly ever!

Peccatoribus
Hardly ever swears a big, big D!
Then give three cheers, and one cheer more,
For the well-bred Captain of the Pinafore!
Then give three cheers, and one cheer more,
For the Captain of the Peccator!

Well I thought that implying that they were overcome by rage rather than that they ill-bred was more charitable.

Swearing = ill-bred? Some of us just don't believe that language should be censored and don't see the point of not using the whole vocabulary that we have.

I find your conclusion of people who swear (and I don't like the term swearing, too ambiguous with too much of a bad connotation) are ill-bred offensive.
If you do physics, panic.

Oh dear lord, George Carlin back from the dead.

I agree that "swear words" are valid words and every bit as useful as any other and that it's needlessly Victorian and prurient to label some words bad and some words good. There are no bad words, only bad thoughts, and to say "oh darn it all to heck" when you hit your thumb with a hammer is no better than any of the more "blue" alternatives.

However ... a problem surely arises when one's vocabulary is so tiny that the swear words account for half of what one says, it's as bad to rely overmuch on "fuck" as your English teacher told you it was to rely on "nice" or "said".

is that figure 82.2% actually of the sinner? I'm kind of surprised. The most irate I've been here was on the abortion thread and I didn't swear at you macgamer. But yep, I have cursed a few times at people who could take it. I'm OK with that.

I think it's pages that contain an expletive (although - who decides what these words are? are bum, ass, arse, fanny?)

The pages are quite long now - so it's not really that surprising.
I'm not a large water-dwelling mammal Where did you get that preposterous hypothesis? Did Steve
