Google Whacks

Postby munchingfoo on Tue Dec 08, 2009 4:04 pm

Just found my first one.

codswalloper antidisestablishmentarianism

Let's have a competition to find more! They have to be googlewhacks at the time you write this, not historic ones. The life expectancy of a googlewhack is very short.

Rules - two words; no quote marks; exactly one hit in google (you are allowed to have the 'show similar results thing, this is generally due to google double indexing the same page).

Ah this takes me back. 6 years ago to be precise thanks to Dave Gorman. I registered more than a few at the Whack Stack but that seems to be on hiatus at the moment: http://www.googlewhack.com/

Also, to clarify the proper rules as they appear on that website:

Rule Number One: Your two words must exist in Google's view of legitimate words in the dictionary, answers.com. This used to be included in Google searches and legitimate words would be blue and underlined, but they've dropped this for something less useful.

Rule Number Two: Google also is the arbiter of a whack's uniqueness. Look to the right end of the blue bar atop your Google results. If you see "Results 1 - 1 of (any number),' you found exactly one hit = Googlewhack!

Rule Number Three: Google shows you an excerpt of the page you whacked. Look at that text. If it's merely a list of words (such as a bibliography, concordance, encyclopedia, glossary, thesaurus, dictionary, domain names, or plain old machine-generated random garbage), No Whack For You!
Aren't you all entitled to your half-arsed musings...You've thought about eternity for 25 minutes and think you've come to some interesting conclusions...My kind have harvested the souls of a million peasants and I couldn't give a ha'penny jizz for your internet assembled philosophy

Do I get one for 'intravenous magnesioferrosilicate'? It did abbreviate 'intravenous' as 'IV' and 'IV magnesioferrosilicate' returns three. The thing that gets me is how many results you get for completely obscure combinations. Are there really 53000 uses for 'secretarial haematite'?
...then again, that is only my opinion.

How can there be 13,800 results for cistern psychosis?

Well, with 42,800 hits for Coprophagic Rastafarian, it looks like somebody is into some really good shit. (ducks)

Looking at the hits it seems that the perior cerebellar cistern is a part of the brain. It's like the 9/11 of the mind.

Ooh... got another few:

vaginaphobic dormouse
hermaphroditic dectuplets
hypercyclic laxatives

It's also amazing what you can find out with Google Wars. Apparently leprechauns are haloscopic, not halophobic.
...then again, that is only my opinion.

Isn't it another rule that Googlewhacks have to consist only of real words? Is codswalloper a real word?

The first one I ever found a few years ago, fastidious antiprotons, now has more than 600 results.

circumbinary neocolonialism

The trouble is that, once Googlewhacked, when Google trawls through this page, all these will become "whacked". The lifetime of a Googlewhack must indeed be very short.
...then again, that is only my opinion.

That would've been a champ but 'tis in a word list. And googlewhacked isn't in the dictionary. :(

You've got me on the word list. I didn't spot that.

But the fact that googlewhacked isn't in the dictionary was the point. :ninja:

It was just my usual penchant for entrepreneurial ludicism.

Incidentally: entrepreneurial ludicism.

I rest my case.
