18 month contracts for internet? wtf?

I was told to go with BT unlimited for internets. Seemed okay at first, but then I saw the 18 month contract. Wtf? I don't know if I'll be staying in the same flat for that long. Who do you guys go through? Are there shorter contracts? Better internets?

BT unlimited is £38 for phone and internets, by the way. Is that about par?

Ha! You can get a 12-month broadband and phone contract from O2 for either 17 pounds a month or 22, depending on if you want inclusive international calls as well (these prices are if you're an O2 customer already, it's a bit more if you're not, but still good value IMO). My recommendation is to never go to BT for anything as they are 1) expensive, 2) liars, and 3) thieves

I had the EXACT same problem when I was looking at BT. I eventually just phoned BT up and asked and they gave me the same deal (landline phone included) for 12 months no problem instead. I know everyone recommends all these strange companies you've never heard of and that's all very well I expect they got great deals but this was the first time I had set up my own internet and wanted to stay in safe grounds so I went with BT and have NEVER had a problem with them. Admittedly, they aren't the cheapest but setting up internet with them is so easy and you know exactly where you stand.
