RIP Olly the cat :o(

Postby kensson on Sat Aug 09, 2003 1:11 pm

Sent out by the Head of School in Maths; I thought some Sinners would like to know too.

"Members of the School will be saddened to learn of the death of
Oliver, the North Haugh cat.

Oliver was one of the most highly educated cats in the land, having
attended more lectures than many students. We shall all miss him."

Word is that Physics is going to put up a plaque in his honour. Meantime, he's probably scrounging around the Great Coffee Room In The Sky, drooling all over Schroedinger.

Awwww no!

Oliver was a great cat, recall many an occasion when he wandered into lecture theatres (especially amusing in Philosophy this year past, cos the lecturer had no idea why there was a cat wandering around).

Poor Olly

My friend Chris had nicknamed Olly the Answer Cat, since he had been around in the Maths and Physics buildings so long he had to know more about Physics than the lecturers. A tin of tuna, and he'd help you out with any class test...

I'm gonna really miss Olly. :(

Do you think QuantumSoc will rename themselves OllySoc again? They really should.

Hehe - just remembered a funny little tale I'd heard about a physics lesson about Schroedinger(sp?) and his cat-in-a-box mind-experiment. Olly came in and sat on the front bench and stared at him the whole lesson.

Bye Olly :(

Now you will only be remembered in the various tales of your incontinence during Physics lectures and your mysterious origins...

Aww, poor Oliver :( I guess he was old though and wherever he is now has got to be better.

Gonna miss him though.

that's a bit sad.

he added a nice bit of character to the building which is always welcome.

and there's nothing more fun than seeing your 6'7 (seemingly humourless) german friend bend down to stroke the cat behind the ears.
I hold an element of surprise

Ah, I remember when I came back from the Union drunk and me and a couple of friends saw him and had our pictures taken with that cat... precious memories.

He will be missed.

Ah, I remember many a late night breather from election campaign poster runs in the Physics common room, and you there for company. I remember being there with Lara, and Hannah Wright stopping by on a poster run of her own and almost sitting on you.

Goodbye Olly, truly the most laid-back cat in the world.

Goodbye Ollypuss. It is very strange coming down to the Maths building and not seeing you.

poor olly. It seems strange to think that he will be there no longer. I can't imagine the physics department without him

He always looked perfectly healthy, how could he die so suddenly.

Now no-one will turn up to those deathly boring MP1001 lectures.

Saddened to hear about the death of Olly, although it was quite apparent for the past few months that he didn't have long to go. Lectures will never be the same again, nor will my used-to-be-cat-hair-covered notes. See you again sometime Olly.

what happened exactly?? i used to see olly alot when coming to the comp rooms here in the maths building. i have to admit he looked kind of in bad condition - skinny and paws sticking out for a mile, looked like a miniaturised puma. i had a feeling perhaps she was not well fed or something?

it will be a huge shame he will no longer be around in the physics building. i used to come to the comp rooms at night and always see him sleeping here and there and sometimes go up to him and just say hi.

i bet lots of students who havent heard the news yet will be sadened when coming back from their holidays. i would like to see the plaque. its gonna feel incomplete without his presence at the physics/maths building now...

rest in piece olly the cat

Poor Olly.

I love cats, and Olly was a great cat. He was also one of the things that made St Andrews unique- I mean, a Physics department cat!

He'll be missed.

You seem confused as to the gender of the cat. Olly was male.

(Olly/Ollie/Oli is a bloke's name.)
