I can no longer stand this town

Postby well pissed off on Thu Mar 18, 2004 9:37 am

My idiot flatmate has just come back at 3, pissed again. He has eaten all my food. I have lent him money because I rarely say no to him. He gambles almost compulsively and constantly laughs off any critiscism. He has no sense of responsabilty whatsoever - the heating is always on, the hot water is always on, he leaves his computer televison hifi gas fire on while he is out. He is incapable of finishing any task. Several times i have had to restrain myself from beating the living shit out of him.
For a 2 person flat we have been paying £100 a month each for electricity and gas. The frontdoor has broken panels and a broken lock, the toilet bowl is physically broken and the flush no longer works. The gimp has attempted to put a keytapping program on my computer to find out my passwords. The only damned thing do in this town seems to be to drink, much as i enjoy that, it gets boring very quickly.
After easter i think i will fly up and stay in a b and b for my one day a week of tutorials as i can no longer stand living in my flat. I hate this town, i have hated it since 1st year, now i have only a year left it makes no sense transferring.
As much as i like my flatmate, i can no longer continue to live in these circumstances, is my attitude a reasonable one?
well pissed off

it sounds like you need to have a serious discussion with him, explaining exactly why you're unhappy. after that, no more lending money or bailing him out. sometimes you'll have to do it when it concerns you (you can't put him in charge of paying bills obviously, as i trust him as far as i could throw him.)

this needs to be sorted out and soon. best of luck.

Definitely go and talk to student support services. If you are lucky maybe the men in white coats will come for him.

But seriously, if you have real issues of this sort, it is exactly what SSS are there for.

Stop moaning you miserable git. Think of child prostitues in Thailand and Sri Lanka, or of the millions of people starving now in Zimbabwe, crippled by lamndmines in Sierra Leone or with Aids in South Africa, think of 30 stone Americans with bed sores and heart disease, think of the sufferers of tuberculosis in Russia, Malaria in Mozanbique, think of those who live half-lives oppressed in Chechnyia, in Tibet, North Korea, Indonesia, and a 100 other places, those subject to the corrupt and lawless criminals in Columbia, Albania even in sicily, think of child prostitutes in Thailand and Sri Lanka, refugees in Eritrea, or from the Congo, of people poisoned by the flower industry in Kenya, think of people who spend their entire working lives in an Ecuadorian coalmine or as a Vietnamise sewage worker or an oil rig in the artic circle, think of a generation of single Chinese men who will never marry. Think of the millions who find themselves to be just plain ugly, stupid and bad.

Now go outside and volunteer to work at a charity shop. if you have enough free time to drink you have enough free time to... give.

"30 stone Americans with bed sores and heart disease" - possibly self-induced?

Taking that a bit far? Why go help others when home isn't right. People shouldn't have to live with bastards like that, think of this one step at a time.

Kill flatmate - bring world peace.
In that order.

much as i love ridiculously condescending people like yourself you do have a bit of a point, it can always be infinitely worse. however, his flatmate is evidently a supreme wanker and deserves the shit kicked out of him.

Not trying to be pedantic or anything, actually I am, but you mentioned the child prostitutes twice. I think that this guy lives with the flatmate from hell, so it seems that you have two options:

a) Make some money by selling your dignity to ITV for a new series of FLATEMATES FROM HELL

b) Confront the selfish twat and mae sure your point is made

Actually you may have more than two options as you could always, get your own back :D I recommend you start watching CKY videos for inspiration.

Get out of the flat as much as you can. We have one of the prettiest little towns on our doorsteps. It sometimes helps to take away the pain... or at least the memories.

"it could be worst" is perhaps the most rude annoying and dumb thing to say to anyone that is quite clearly struggling with life. It isn't worst, for the person, it's as bad as it needs to be, it's hell.
If someone came on saying they were a child-slave in sri lanka or whatever the heck you were going on about you'd probably say "it could be worst".

To the person in trouble, seek help, there are people that wwill give it, just pop into the union to see Student Support services, write them an email, phone nightline, just find someone that will help you.
In the meantime, chin up, it could be worst.

Exactly. You could be a child-slave with one leg. Or leprosy.

I don't suppose this flatmate is of a particularly hirsute disposition, is he?

No, you're not being unreasonable. I've been having similar problems to you this year - see http://www.thesinner.net/messageboard-v ... hread=7015 for the whole story. Ignore the idiot who's telling you to stop complaining - I think you're justified. And yes, Student Support, plus spending time out of the flat, are good ideas - worked for me. By the way, Mr Tickle - love that website you mentioned, it's made me realise I'm not alone!

clostrophobic prickish nature?

So as someone considering going to St. Andrews, you would say that's a bad idea?

Leaving stuff switched on is irresponsible.

Putting a keystroke logger on your computer is illegal.

I know what I'd do. Fuck that kind of behaviour. I evict his ass, and, if he complained, go to the police.
