I'm sure the production was good, but the play sucks.

It was reallly good, well put together and so magical. Congratulations to all cast and crew especially for the bit at the start that really drew the audience into the play.

Advertising

Postby Twinkle on Wed May 12, 2004 12:45 pm

Does anyone know anything about who did the advertising or helped to organise this event. It was sooo good so well done and the carved wooden plaques outside the library were a nice touch! Anyone know anything about the company relief production? They did the vagina monologues right? Would be great if anyone knew anymore about who did all this...esp the publicity people...thanks! I might need some publicity and if i could get ahold of these people it would be great!

Publicity

Postby AR on Wed May 12, 2004 1:02 pm

Hey twinkle- to answer your question, the people who did Twelfth Night were the same people who did Vagina Monologues- the tag team that is Naomi and Marisha. Their publicity is done by Intrigue Promotions, which you can see on the Zuloo website under publicity at www.zuloo.com
If you're doing a show and need publicity though you should get in touch with the mermaids publicity people- Ali or Anselm emails alr1 and aji3.
Hope all that helps!

Twelfth Night - Pah! Twelfth Shite more like

Postby Chaucer on Wed May 12, 2004 3:06 pm

The play was fucking abismal. The acting was poor at the best of times - the projection from all but the two leads was appalling and even the lead actor was overacting appallingly.

The director showed supreme stupidity by not lighting the thing - by the end of the evening I couldn't see a bloody thing - the price was ridiculous, and they were charging for programmes! Daylight robbery - I hope she never does anything like that again - it was far too ambitious and she failed miserably in it.

Thanks

Hey there Chris
What kind of things do intrigue promotions do? Apart from twelfth night would there have been anything i would have seen publicity for that you also have worked on? Is it mainly just publicity or do you help out with other aspects?
Thanks for your time

Hi Twinkle

We just use that number as an answering service - the most reliable way is to get in touch through email, and we can sort out a time to meet up and have a chat about your ideas.

As for what we do, it is mainly publicity work, but we also offer event consultation and management services to help get your ideas off the ground and running smoothly.

I look forward to you getting in touch!

I saw the production, and liked it. I'm a fan of the play already, so it didn't take a whole lot to win me over, but there were certain elements that I liked quite a lot. The atmosphere of the production was good, particularly with the opening 'festival' stylings, and the shipwreck scene.

The actors were on the whole, quite good, and I was particularly impressed by several, especially in the Toby Belch/Sir Andrew/Mary/Malvolio subplot. Actually, on this note the production did a very good job of highlighting the comedy - I've seen a few surprisingly unfunny renditions of the play.

I do have a few critiques of the production though. The castle, while an inspiring backdrop, is huge, and consequently an acoustic nightmare. I think they should have made the stage smaller, and drawn the audience in closer for a more intimate production. It seemed that more often then not the actors were very far away from me, particularly in the scenes when they were in the far corner of the castle. Essentially, the space was too big for the actors to possibly hope to fill.

Also, the lack of lighting, which while I understand was due to financial constraints, really did affect the show. The torches looked nice, but a lot of the subtlety and visuals of the last few scenes were lost.

All in all though it was an enjoyable night, so congrats to all the people involved. I guess the next big Shakespeare on the horizon is Macbeth next term.

Thanks Chris

Thats great. I will get in touch via email if need be. Or if i ever need a helping hand with publicity.
Sounds like you are very organised. Is this a university run thing or is it completley set up by yourself? If you have set it up by yourself - well done you have done an excellent job and a produce very impressive work. I will keep you in mind. And congratulations again on all the wonderful work that you have publicised i think its great!
