Blonde beer

What is "blonde" supposed to mean when referring to beer?

You get ginger beer, too - is there brunette beer? Or blue-rinse beer?

blonde beer is usually used on the 25ml "dumpy bottle" multipacks you get in the supermarkets, usually means white beer in that its fairly clear.

ginger beer is non-alcoholic i think?

Blonde beer is a lighter beer, and is not as strong. Therefore blonde beer is usually less alcoholic.

Ginger beer is completely non-alcoholic. As is Ginger Ale.

Actually you can get Ginger beer that is slightly alcoholic (in Cherries I believe) that is fizzy because of slight fermentation rather than CO2. It wouldn't get you pissed, but if you're a Muslim, etc. best avoided.

The usual stuff, however, isn't alcoholic at all. It's a bit like Root beer, i believe.

it so happens that a lot of the crappy blonde beer you get over here is lower percentage, but in actual fact many blonde beers are just as high percentage as normal beer, if not more so...

it does however taste a lot more 'watery' if thats the right word... maybe just less bitter, plus obviously the colour :P

its just a guess but i thought ale was the collective term, which is made up from different types such as beer and stout etc...
