so what is your definition of a word? Dictionaries have words continually added to them depending what is in main day usage. if everyone used alot alot then it would get put in the dictionary, but would you still class it as not a word?

"Nither"? "Ither"? Those are original ways of spelling them... unless you meant just the pronunciation of them. I tend to use the long "i" sound in them all the time.

"Alright" I find strange, because "altogether" and "already" are fine, but not the contraction of "all" and "right" together (even though it's so commonly used). Nevertheless, I was taught that it's always wrong.

I think that we'd do well to remember that Dickens and the Bard were writing centuries ago and that the English language is a constantly evolving animal.
