I heard they were trying to get Idlewild and Razorlight, but there's nothing definite I've heard yet.

I don't think we'll be getting Razorlight - they've already confirmed their dates. I really hope we get a good band! In fact, I wish the union would have bands play throughout the year! Some good live music is what St Andrews needs

Live music you say?

Postby Director of Services on Mon Aug 16, 2004 3:31 pm

No, we're not hiding in a corner, hoping Orientation Week is going to be cancelled so that we can be less stressed. Even though that does sound like a good idea sometimes...

The line-up should be announced on Wednesday.

Check out www.YourUnion.net for the latest information (as Oli puts it up).

But yeah, definately, live music is great... expect some surprises throughout the year.

But how can one expect surprises?...

I hope we get Idlewild, i've worked with them before. Their lighting rig is unbelieveable, so many mac 600's, 500's and 300's. Not to mention their lighting is done by Nick Jevands, who is a legend.

(Both Idlewild and Razorlight will be out of the country during our Orientation Week, I've already looked into them.)

By the way, if anyone can think of anything they'd like to see during Orientation Week, not just big names but other smaller events for during the day, please feel free to post them or e-mail doserv@st-and.ac.uk

Bonsai Tree Pruning Class? Someone has asked for it! What else??? Bike safety/ marking of mobiles by the police?

The most important event of the week is already organised - poker, Thursday @ 7pm in the Salad Bowl :)

Poker you say!? I've been learning to play this summer. It's quite fun when you get into it. Although I haven't plucked up the courage to play for money yet. I've just been sticking with dried pasta.

Take a look at our forum and you'll see the details of our Fresher's Week event, there's also some info on us in the Sinner's Guide to St Andrews. We'll be running beginners/intermediate games throughout the year (as well as at the Freshers event), so come along some time :)

Also, we only have a couple of female members at the moment, so it would be great to attract some more!! (I've promised Bonnie some lessons given the amount of work I've been forcing on her over the summer, so she'll hopefully be there at some stage!)

poker@st-and.ac.uk for any further details

Forgive me for sounding pessimistic...but its the same every year that someone from the Union tells us to expect exciting things to pop up throughout the year, and they never seem to materialise.

But to end on a positive note, the hypnotist and Judge Jules were fantastic last freshers week :o)

The Streets is an absolute genius. You shouldn't judge him based on that song alone. Listen to both albums.

Morrisey is a miserable old bastard,
id rather be cheered up during freshers week.

Although not with Goldie looking chain or the streets. White boys rapping only worked once and they were the almighty beastie boys.

Without Jonny marr Morrisey is shite
