Please let me know, too! The UDS tie will be a welcome companion to the IZA tie (but not blazer or cap) that I may soon be adorned with...

Well hellooo,

This is the first time that I have taken both the pleasure and liberty of posting a question on this particular 'board'.

Now then, to business. What I'd really like you to tell me is what you think would make the perfect morning dress. I've recently purchased a rather fine tailcoat with grey waistcoat and wonderfully heavy trousers and am thinking that a top hat would rather be too much - seeing that I'm still a bit of a whippersnapper and not actually that old (25 - 6 in May, and yes, you're all invited).

So, what's it to be? Have I forgotten anything or should I possibly consider some other accessories to top it off with?

Yours,

GP

United College Ties

Postby peter on Tue Apr 19, 2005 9:13 am

From today, the tie of the United College of St Salvator and St Leonard, not sold in BESS since 2000, will be on sale in Loot for £15.

It's a wonderful day.

Loot is near to my pre-debate stop, Luvians bottle shop. I would also reccomend the wooden boxes, which are perfect for loose leaf tea.
I shall be buying a tie in due course.

And as for the morning dress, wear the hat, and a buttonhole as well. Anything else and you could be going to extremes. Although, if it is your wedding, sartorially you can do what do damn well please. But if it's not, it's fairly poor form to show up the groom (unless they are in a tea-shirt and jeans).

Hurrah echoed! But what does the United College tie look like? How does it differ from that of the Students' Association?

Yes. It bears the orb and cross off of the arms of St Salvator's College on a black background with red stripes (or, at least, it used to - I haven't seen the latest batch yet as I am loathe to enter "Loot" for fear that I might have to endure a tedious conversation with Martin Passmore about the KK Procession and how he'd managed to misplace Archbishop Stewart and his horse...).

JCH--could you perhaps reveal which is your company? I''m sure that those of us who occasionally use a tailor (yes, I'm a bit older too--but not by vast amounts!) would prefer to work with a fellow graduate!

In the interests of discretion, I shall not divulge directly my company name; but there is a fair chance you will make use of our services during your time at this (or any other) university.

Debates tie

Postby TorWestwood on Tue Apr 19, 2005 4:12 pm

It has come to my attention that debates ties are also not sold in Bess (What the hell is wrong with them?)... and I want one. I know I know I'm a girl, but that's no reason not to wear a tie. Especially a debates tie. Does anyone know where one might obtain such a tie save buying 'bee' coloured strips of fabric and sewing them all together (like the woman I am)?

Chacun a son gout. I hate women in ties. Unless they're schoolgirls, obviously.

Why are these ties being sold in Loot (a local shop with no link to the University) rather than in BESS (the Students' Association shop)? Just wondering.

Quite correct. The label on the back reads Makkocks and Dick Ltd, and the ties are silk faced polyester. Jolly smart they are too!

The woman in the shop quite accurately guessed that I had come for the aforesaid tie. What insight she had I cannot say; I must possess some sort of aura...
