Would it be possible for a link to be posted to a picture of a slip. I have no idea what one is and a quick google search yielded no joy.

Many Thanks

Does anyone know where in London I could get a satin cummerbund with no ruffles? (ie. just flat across, and shiny, without the little folds to put your concert tickets in).

Though it's come a bit adrift! Shocking of him to have coloured cuffs on his shirt when in morning dress, too - though I do like the braid on his coat; very Edwardian.

But it would then be most obviously just a gut bra, why would you want that? Also where would you put your concert tickets?

Because they're all over Dior Homme for the Winter, and they look much cooler than the ones with ridges. And as if anyone actually puts their concert tickets in them.

Perhaps if wearing such a ghastly garment no-one would issue you with concert tickets, hence removing a need for somewhere to keep them?

I thought the purpose of the pleats was to simulated the appearance wearing a continuous piece of silk wrapped, several times, around the waist. The storage capacity of the folds is secondary to this; though perhaps it dictates the orientation of the garment.

My google searches have been fruitless, but I am pretty sure I have seen pictures of Rajas with such proper cummerbunds, wrapped around the waist and knotted at the side.

I must say I didn't like what Dior produced for Winter this year.

The Cummerbund looks like a big belt, and the rest of the clothing either looks like you haven't had you suit pressed, or you seem to have been on safari and stolen a lion.

Though the use of the cummerbund on many cases was not on evening wear, just with a casual jacket. There were also a few with bands around the neck. Maybe bow ties will crop up in Dior's books sometime soon.

Oh god, I just looked up the dior cummerbund. It's awful. Wear one with pleats or a waistcoat, for your own sake.

Where can I obtain a colourful, fun (without being garish) silk hankerchief?

Does anyone know how to tie clerical bands? Not that I imagine anyone does any more, but surely people must have done at some point.

I don't know where you were looking, but I disagree. But you don't have to be so patronising, I was just asking where you could find one.

I'm not wearing one with pleats. They're terribly common and ugly looking. If I can't find one I will wear my waistcoat or nothing at all.

Mr Dunn is correct about the originations of the cummerbund. Originally it was known as a kamar bandh, and was worn by the Indian military.

I despise cummerbunds utterly, unless they are actually a single length of fabric wrapped around. Those God-awful elastic straps across the back make me cringe, plus if they aren't a single piece of fabric they tend to shift around when worn.

Pleated or otherwise, they're ghastly. Though unpleated might make one look rather like a steward on a cruise ship circa 1970. Or a ballroom dancing type. Don't do it.

Um, ok... judgement city in here.

Does anyone know where in London I could get a black satin evening scarf, then? Preferably without tassles.

Oh for God's sake! 'Judgement city'? We're expressing our opinion on an article of clothing you held up for examination. Not conducting witch trials.

Behave.

Actually, this whole cummerbund debate brings back a question that's always rather puzzled me - why are off-the-peg dinner jackets sold with accompanying trousers, but practically never with low-cut waistcoats?
