Having more punters through the door than there was in one of the most disastrous years for debates is not in itself a good thing. It is quite easy to better than appalling, but that is not the same as good.
Having packed debates week after week is a good thing. Having a level of attendances not seen since Patterson's board is a good thing. Compared to Weigler's run, most attendances are better.
Firstly, I was responding directly to the previous suggestion that debates last year were empty, making most of this pretty well irrelevant. Second, however, your suggestion that it was easy to move out of a situation where the House was almost literally empty, is not quite true, because it is much harder to increase attendance from a low level than it is once the Society has built up a base of popularity.
Third, last year was not predominantly about building up large attendences in LPH in any case. Rather it was about and creating the very base from which things have been built up this year - improving the financial situation, fostering unity throughout the Society's activities where previously there was division, securing the continued support and involvement of the Association. As I keep saying, that things have been buliding up from there is all to the good.
