Oh, piss off. My post didn't say anything about you, didn't make any reference to your 'credibility', is in large parts untrue and in totality constitutes a personal attack against another user of this forum, contrary to section 4 of the terms and conditions, and to respond to your claims would put me at risk of breaching the same rule. On that basis, it should be removed.

On the wider point, however, this was a whole year ago now. I've moved on with my life, and I wish other people would too. Whatever you think about what I did that night, spun and exaggerated out of all proportion though it has been, just give me a fucking break. I've given years of my life to this society and I'll give more yet, and that's what I care about.

Let me just remind anyone who wants to make any more snide remarks about this that if you'd feel comfortable having your life judged against the worst things yoiu've ever done, well, you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

For a moment I thought you're ire was at me. How distressing - but I see it's just wonky quoting, you've no idea the relief.

Dr Joss - I don't believe it; you have misplaced an apostrophe.

Good Lord, so I have. May I offer being on enough codeine to tranquillise a hippo as a defence?

I don't think my doctors would approve - I had to stop drinking some weeks ago, besides, it's in my system now, pouring alcohol on top would be somewhat foolish of me.

A malt and codeine?!
Apparently that increases the drowsiness, whilst not killing anyone it might cause a comma to be inserted somewhere it doesn't normally go!

And David, surely calling someone a moron constitutes a personal attack? Throwing the first stone and all that?

In fairness, Bean did say "where it's not meant to go" rather than "where the sun doesn't shine".

A gavel, for example, is not meant to go in a postbox. Nor a mincer.

That I believe is beside the point. "Where it's not meant to go" is loaded with inuendo, espechally when said to an attractive female clerk. Add to that the large number of kiddywinks in the room who would have the standered schoolroom sense of humor (i.e. filthy, not that different from the UDS) it was probably all in all not the wisest thing to say, even if it was said as a mistake.

Oh that's just asking to be deliberately misconstrued.

I had actually meant as an option for the next occasion - but if the poor lad is not allowed to drink at all, he is deserving of even more sympathy!

I did wonder - just after I replied - if you were using "postbox" in the same sense as did Admiral Benson. But that would take the thread back to unlikely physical acts.

Now, this is getting out of hand. Chris, do me a favour here. If you think you wouldn't be pissed off from a remark like "lmago's" considering the history involved, well, you're entitled to your opinion, but personally I think the word 'moron' was polite. It hardly breached the terms of service, which, I'll remind you, define the offence as "harassing or causing distress or inconvenience to any person, transmitting obscene or offensive content or disrupting the normal flow of dialogue within The Sinner". If being called a moron is a even departure from, never mind a disruption to, the normal flow of dialogue around here, well, I must have been dreaming these past few years. However, if the moderator would like to delete both of those posts, she'd have no objection whatsoever from me.

Tom, not that I particularly want to prolongue this rather tedious dialogue but if your contention is that I told a joke that appealed to the bulk of the audience's sense of humour, well, that doesn't sound to me exactly like a hanging offence. I'd hate to think I might have corrupted the little darlings by showing them a more refined way to be vulgar. I'm sure you'd disagree - but then, Sith Lords have no sense of humour.

David, you really shouldn't use absolute statements, even when dealing with the Sith (only the Sith deal in absolutes, etc.); it's just bad form, 'specially for a debater. To cite but one example to invalidate your claim, Darth Vectivus was very fond of light entertainments and a good wheeze, as his private asteroid hideout attests.

But the point is that you didn't appeal to the bulk of the audience's sense of humour. Every year the bulk of the audience is made up of parents, relatives, brothers, sisters, headmasters and sponsors and you offended nearly everyone there.

Gosh, I've missed The Sinner

Quoting exnihilo from 00:45, 6th Mar 2007

It would be, we both started in 1993, so to 2007 is 13 finals as we missed the first one.....

....and what a debate you missed! Ian Duncan in the chair, and Buckhaven High victorious for the first and only time (despite a valiant attempt in 97 and a very near miss in 98 - not that I'm bitter).

Interestingly, one half of the team now reads the news on BBC Scotland, while the other was in River City.

You mean that winning the Courier isn't the ticket to worldwide success promised but merely a cynical Scottish television recruitment drive ? Say it isn't so!

Where did you get the hippo from?

As for commenting on reaction to the behaviour at the Courier final of 2005/06, members of teaching staff who were present were distinctly unimpressed. The term "appalled" may be applied without fear of inaccuracy.

Fortunately the Courier Final 2006/07 was much better.
