7.30 for 8 will once again mean something, as the Debating Society has finally won back the right to serve drinks in the Psychology foyer before debates, as confirmed with myself and Tom about ten minutes ago by the Head of School.
This is largely to do with the society's conduct over the last two years and the killing off of the 'get pissed up at debates' culture. Neither myself or Rachael were permitted to use the foyer for our events due to the noise and mess created the previous year, which was really sad given the type of speakers we managed to get. I hope you will all rally behind Tom and behave responsibly at drinks receptions from now on, and that we can hang on to this for the future.
It has also helped vastly that the society has done so well competitively, and has started to be seen as an asset in the University executive's eyes- this is something which I am sure you will build on in the coming year. This year, the society has had a great relationship with the sabbatical team, which has encoraged us to beg Dr Lang (successfully!) to help you get this back. It will be really great if this can also be continued next year so you can continue to get the helping hand you need!
Congratulations and good luck with the first debate after Easter-
I'm looking forward to my G&T.......
