Newcastle and Durham

Postby mattina on Thu Oct 25, 2007 10:55 am

Newcastle IV will be held on Friday the 2nd November this year and Durham will be held on Saturday the 3rd.

We're sending two teams to Newcastle and six to Durham and there are still places available to speak and judge at both tournaments. I can only send so many speakers but I'm willing to send as many judges as want to go to both of these IVs.

To get to Newcastle it's the 6:51 am train from Leuchars arriving at 9:40. Please DO NOT take the next train as it's arriving to close to the close of registration to get from the train station to reg without being late.

There will be a couple of people continuing from Newcastle to Durham as well as people taking the train on Saturday down to Durham. To get to Durham on the Saturday take the 6:28 train from Leuchars (again, DO NOT take the later train, you will miss registration and therefore the tournament as a whole).

Returning on the Sunday I'll be on the 9:50 (first train of the day) which arrives into Leuchars at 14:33.

Anyone who wants to go, please contact me at lem55 to come along!

-Laura

PS-a word to the freshers, when you buy your train tickets buy a young person's railcard for 20 pounds as you get 1/3 off your rail tickets for the year and I suggest you buy your card and tickets at the travel service.

Congratulations to Beth & Jess, Connie & Doug, and Rachael & Chris who made it the the semi-final at Durham and especially to Rachael & Chris who won the final!

All of our teams did well and we had strong showings from our judges.

I'm sure somebody will post more complete results, but I just wanted to get that out...

SUCCESS!!

Durham: Congratulations to of course Chris and Rachael for winning but also to Jess and Beth and Connie and Doug for breaking. Three teams breaking is fantastic!

I'd also like to congratulate James and Kenny for finishing on 7 team points as well as Dickie and Laura for chairing rooms.

Newcastle: Congratulations to Doug and Laura for breaking top of tab.

In short, a fantastic weekend all around for St Andrews debating! Thanks to everyone who participated by speaking, judging and cheering on our teams after the break!

I'm so impressed! Set's a good tone for the year guys... next goal: take up top 3 spots in the break!

HUGE congrats to Rach and Chris, well deserved, and what a fun competition to break at!

And can't forget how well all the Freshers did. I think in my first year I was about 2/3 of the way down the tab at my first IV. This is a spectacular turnout guys. I hope everyone had fun.

YAY!

And well done Beth - I love our equal speaks. It's gorgeous.

YAY!

PS Bring on Oxford! (even though I'm judging...) And the Mace!
