Euros Trials

Postby mattina on Thu Nov 29, 2007 6:40 pm

Euros will be held this year in 23-27 June in Tallinn, Estonia.

We will be looking to send 4 teams again this year. We will also be sending 3 judges.

Standard rules apply; fourth years will not be allowed to trial and judging trials will be open to freshers.

Trials will be held the 23 January to allow a full day for the trials to be held rather then attempting to run them over multiple afternoons and evenings.

Further details forthcoming, however, anyone wishing to trial as a speaker or a judge or who has any questions, please email me at lem55.

If you are trialling as a speaker and have a particular partner in mind, please include their name in your email but keep in mind that the judging panel reserves the right to change pairings during trials.

Given massive conflictions on behalf of the entire judging panel having job interviews as it would work out, the date is no longer the 23rd. New date to be announced later.

New Trial Date: From week one, Wednesdays during training for as long as it takes.

For those not trialling, training will be held as normal.

To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is to be disqualified.

Clarification:
Those wishing to trial as judges to go to euros should also be present this Wednesday.

Euros judging trials operate on a freshers first, women and children second basis.

Euros Trials: Update

Postby kdc4 on Wed Feb 13, 2008 6:53 pm

Euros trials will continue through week two, during intervaristy training (Wednesdays 2-5). Judging trials will continue simultaneously.

If it is necessary for us to continue to trialling beyond next Wednesday, will eliminate all but eight speakers for a third, and final, trail the following week.

The method of scoring that we are using allows debaters an 'off round', or does not eliminate them from consideration after one bad performance. Speakers who missed today's trial are welcome to attend next week but will not be allowed an 'off round' before bad performances rule them out of consideration.

Cheers,
-Doug

Euros Trials are Finished!

Postby kdc4 on Wed Feb 27, 2008 5:52 pm

At long last, it's all over!

First off a big thanks to Connie, Rach, and Beth for soldiering on through it all, despite illness, academic work, and better things to do.

We have our champions! (drum roll please...)

St Andrews A: Tom Cahn and James Beadle
St Andrews B: Chris Hawkins and Jess Siegel
St Andrews C: Chris Harper and Kenny Nicoll

Judges: Maddy Grieve and Laura Mattina.

Commisertations to those who fell short. It was a very close-run thing.

To the victors:
Go forth and conquer,
We'll be cheering you on!

Cheers,
-Doug
