The new (old) website is back at www.st-and.ac.uk/~debates

I cannot alter the yourunion one to point there so I shall be getting Jess to do that ASAP.

Things will be added to it over the next few days, but it should be current in that I've changed names and stripped out old stuff.

I am going to be tracking down minutes that have been written up to put them on.

As always put your pedantry hats on and tell me where I have mis-spelled etc.

hmm...looks good-thanks so much Chris!

two pedantic comments though:

1. under 'public relations' the convenor still is rachael

2. perhaps 'socials' and the non-existent 'photos' sections could just be combined (or the 'photos' bit scrapped) and replaced with a page about Sponsorship.

I can only find thosse errors but am sure in time I will find more....

Doug is either there or Vacant.... Has he resigned??? (I know the answer but surely some sort of formal anouncement may be polite....)

How about a link to facebook groups? since we have one to here it should be easy...

Best of luck and thanks for putting it back where it belongs i.e. off the union site.

Ah, once again, the unreg pops in to dazzle us with the full majesty of his uninformed, ad hoc reckon. Presumably by simply banging on the keyboard with his fists or head*.

If you think so, say why, perhaps identify yourself?

The pictures are all stretched and weird on Safari. I suspect they're in a table and that you've allowed the table size to govern their size rather than specifying an image size in the tag for each.

Oh, and it is surely Father OF the House, not TO. I'm almost 100% certain that Rachael is father to nobody.

Damn, now that I'm a Mac user I'll actually have to go and check that Safari one now...

Thanks for all the replies I'll get on to them this afternoon.

Oh and there should be minutes coming online in the next week or two.

Right that's the easy fixes done.

Any suggestions as to what the picture for a sponsors page should be?

Hopefully I can find a better image for some of the others, social, schools and training as well as maybe the Alumni one. Any suggestions welcome.

Plus does anyone know the difficulties involved in getting a photo of a schools competition online? Are there boring regulations to that stuff?

Yes there are. You're supposed to have written permission from the parents of every pupil. Tedious. Schools usually issue a blanket consent form in the start-of-session pack - and there are always some who will withhold permission. If you want to make site look pretty, best bet is probably to ask staff to supply photos they have taken of their competing / victorious kids as you can then assume they have clearance. I could - ahem - provide you with some...

Any chance of getting the Society motto on the site, 'Pro Amicita Et Literis' ('For Friendship and Learning')? When I came back some time last year I found out half the Board of Ten didn't even realise we had one, mainly because it never seems to be used these days, and has fallen from notice.

This is looking much, much better. The site itself is better put together, but I think that content-wise, the sponsorship area is under written.

Given how important they are, it's not really prominent enough. The way we're presenting it at the moment presents no incentive for people to get involved other than for the personal gain of the UDS.

There is no mention of enhanced publicity for sponsors, or any ways in which sponsoring the UDS in any capacity could benefit the people handing over the money. Surprisingly enough, people don't hand over cash just for the benefit of an institution going to internationals, which is the premier reason the website lists.

A suggestion here would be that we put together a basic sponsorship document. While approaches to individuals and companies should be personalised as far as possible, and I know this is ongoing, surely it would be a benefit it potential donors could access a pdf which gives them the opportunity to see what we have to offer and how this could work? We could put up examples of posters, show where banners can stand in LPH, etc etc.

In the 'Training' secion, queries are still directed to Doug, despite the position being vacant on other areas of the website. Also, in the IV section, Maidens is listed as upcoming, when it has passed. Perhaps you could announce the winner instead?

Oh, and under the Alumni and Public relations heading, you have a link to the Courier website (which is great).
However, could you make the link cover both the words 'The' and 'Courier' and capitalise the 'The' please?

I'll shut my inner pedant away for a while now, I promise...

Thanks for the suggestion about a basic sponsorship document Kizzy. Owen and I are currently doing one.
