Postgraduate Notices 06/10/04

Postby RJ Covino on Wed Oct 06, 2004 12:56 pm

Copied from the Wednesday memo that may or may not go out today:

1) From Ralph Covino, Association Postgraduate Officer, rjc15@st-andrews.ac.uk

Following the creation of a new Postgraduate Society Committee, we are pleased to announce that once again this year the Committee will be seeking to utilize its privilege of issuing grants and/or loans to individuals or to groups of postgraduates who are looking to put on social events targeted at a postgraduate audience.  Please contact me at the address listed above if you have any questions about this scheme or would like to put in an application for funding for a postgraduate event.

2) From Ralph Covino, Association Postgraduate Officer, rjc15@st-andrews.ac.uk

The Students’ Association would like to remind all postgraduates that they are all full members of the Students’ Association and, as such, are welcome to join any of the many societies or attend events which are run through it (as well as enjoy the rest of the Association’s services, such as the Travel Service located on the 1st floor of the Union building or those of the Association’s Educational Researcher who is also located on the 1st Floor of the Union building).

If you missed the Societies’ Fayre, it is not too late to get involved with any of the Association’s many clubs and societies.  Contact the Societies’ Officer
on socs@st-andrews.ac.uk if you have any specific questions about societies or how to get involved.

Postgraduates are automatically members of the Postgraduate Society, the events schedule for which will be coming out shortly.

3) From Ralph Covino, Association Postgraduate Officer, rjc15@st-andrews.ac.uk

Next Monday sees the start of another round of elections in the Students’ Association.  See http://www.yourunion.net/main/officers/ ... ns/october for a detailed list of positions which are available.

This is a particularly important election for postgraduates, as a number of positions which were specifically created for postgraduate representation are coming up for election for the first time.

While we encourage postgraduates to stand for any of the positions which are available, it is particularly important for postgrads to put themselves forward
for the posts on the SRC (Students’ Representative Council) which deal with specifically postgraduate issues.  Research postgraduates, PG Diploma students, as well as those on the taught M.Litt. or M.Sc. courses are all welcome to stand, and, indeed, have their own representatives on the SRC, some of which need to be filled.  The position of SSC (Student Services Committee) Postgraduate Officer is also up for grabs.

Fuller details can be found at the Association’s webpage at http://www.yourunion.net or by contacting me directly at the address listed
above.

4) From Ralph Covino, Association Postgraduate Officer, rjc15@st-andrews.ac.uk

Following the success of our first event of the year, the Welcome Party, during Orientation Week, the Postgraduate Society is pleased to announce that we are having another social event of the same style on Saturday, 16th October, in Venue 2 of the Students' Association (top floor, end of corridor).  The event will run from 8pm until late and is open to postgraduates, mature students and their guests.
