Hey guys! Just thought I would check out the chat! I am guessing most of you are too young now to remember DN when it first made it onto the St A scene but this is the society's 5th year! (God am I getting old)

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY DEVIANT NOISE!!!

It was REALLY hard work getting it off the ground so I am soooooo proud its STILL going!!! Keep up the good fight! Y'all have a VERY Deviant year now!

(I hope there'll be plenty of Deviant action when i cruise by for Raisin Weekend... And by the way, whoever made it to our City Road Raisin party in 2003 I have finally edited lots of the video footage... heh heh...)

(ps whilst perusing the messageboard i couldn't help but notice a teensy bit of arguing regarding what DN should or should not be playing - DN was originally set up for folks to play a WIDE variety of - largely unheard - music they wanted to introduce to others... for people to have the opportunity to showcase the music they want to hear played... but obviously every society evolves and must have its niche and crowd-pulling tactics... aah beer pong... I would just recommend keeping it friendly, different and diverse ;-p *END OF UNASKED-FOR SPIEL*)

I though this was DNs 4th year? I'm sure it started in my second year: 2001/2002.

Anyway, about the music - I totally agree with you. DN should be playing all the stuff that isn't heard anywhere else, as long as the members want it. If Dn isn't playing music you'd like to hear (but can't get at rocksoc, for example) become a DJ or something.

That's a useful metaphor for life.

Deviant Noise first oficially came into existence in 2000. The first event did not take place until September 2001 when DN was unleashed onto an unsuspecting St Andrews during a 40 minute slot at RockSoc. Some may have thought that DN would not last beyond that 40 minutes but I am proud to say Happy 5th Birthday to the best society in St Andrews!
