Anyone have any ideas what to spend the societies budget on? We need a VCR and to replace the VHS of Escaflowne, but are there any films/series/stuff anyone wants to see?

budget spending

Postby fiona on Thu Nov 25, 2004 1:20 am

Ideas for spending money hmmm?
Some thoughts do spring to mind but the relevant ones are posted below:
"3x3 Eyes Collection",
"Legend of the Dragon Kings"-Box Set,
"Devilman" (whichever format you like the look of I suppose).
Suggestions of "Excel Saga" and "King of Bandit Jing" also sound like good ones to see but no more jiggles please!
:)
p.s. 3 1st can be found at animearigato.com(sure you know anyway).
p.p.s.Can we please show some "Fist of the North Star"?

The DVD boxset of Escaflowne (26 episodes), including the movie, is going here for about $79.99. Maybe you could get it imported. The £/$ exchange rate is very favourable for you right now.

Do you mean the original series or the new mini-series you can get on Amazon? I've actually got the old series but it's not something I'd recommend - even if you factor out the bad subtitles on my cheap regionless copy.

Suggestions of "Excel Saga"

You rock!

Mini-series? That Manga 2-vol. thing?--nope. I mean the remake of the original 1970's T.V series--the 4-episode OAV series?
& what do you mean you wouldn't recommend it? Sure it's a little bloody(&)freaky but variety's good (even though I still suffer from the nightmares--those wailing faces!)

Yey! People are responding to posts!
I've preordered Escaflowne on Play, but it isn't out till December, so on Monday (29th) we'll have to use my rubbish dubbed version, for which I apologise.
As to Devilman, I like Fist of the North Star, so I can hardly complain... There doesn't seem to bemany places that have it though. And I would probably be lynched if we showed the series of FOTNS, but maybe the film If I can get away with it...
I saw the first two episodes of Excel Saga yesterday. WANT!

I've the first three DVDs of Excel Saga if you're interested.

I believe the Devilman series I have is the original 1970s rather than the remake. It's frighteningly many episodes long, and they're all whacked, but each to their own I guess.

Can we get "3x3 Eyes" then?--please--it's not "whacked" or anything, it's lovely&nice and available to buy (£whisper)the collection one! :)

p.s. when I say "lovely" I mean it has lovely bits in it--well-balanced.
p.p.s...and I will to my own be eached :)x ---FOTNS film!!!!--no lynching.

Oh dear, FOTNS has been brought up... yes, watching all of it is daft, surely just the film couldn't hurt...
Still, moving away from the "how good is Devilman" debate, it seems quite a few people like Excel Saga (or is that just me).
Anyone seen Martian Successor Nadesico who can give an opinion, 'cause it looks okay.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few episodes of MSN so I can see if it's any good, and whether we should show it...

I approve of Nadesico - it was quite funny and one of those anime that i would love to one day see subbed rather than dubbed ^_^

Well there's a chinese import shop on ebay that's selling the archives of Studio Ghibli (all the films up to Spirited Away) for about £35. I just got a copy, and it's brand new, and arrived pretty quickly. Might be an investment for the society considering some of the classics that are in it.
