I'd thought I'd start up an argument.
Last year ADV films announced they planned a live action film of Neon Genesis Evangelion. It will be in English, made in Hollywood, and WETA will be doing the special effects (they did LOTR). This is a pretty good website following its development.

Where's the ocean's daughter? Was Peter Pan in Mordor? Do you know if Merlin did exist?
Or Frodo wore the ring? Did Corum kill the gods?
Or where's the wonderland Which young Alice had seen Or was it just a dream? I knew the answers; Now they're lost for me

It will look dead cool, have ham acting, and Eva fanboys will point all the mistakes. People like me will go 'cool!' 'boom!' etc. Possibly sing 'You dig giant robots, I dig giant robots, we dig giant robots, chicks dig giant robots. Nice.' and so on.
However Holywood is bound to ruin the plot, which (according to you Patrick) is the best bit. As long as no gross casting errors are made I'll watch it, but I'll withold judgement until it comes out.

It will probably excel (hmm, Excel) as an action film if WETA are doing it, but be toned down by Hollywood so that Americans will/can watch it without the Bible Belt causing a stir.
Early rumours of Daniel Radcliffe as Shinji have fortunately been quashed. Repaeted rumours of Hugo Weaving as Gendo, whilst cool, are probably Fanboish fantasies.
