Manga/Anime/Character Art Commission

A manga/anime/character artist is required to produce the official logo for the Japan Food & Drink Festival 2004 to be held in West London.

This is expected to be the most comprehensive Japanese food and drink event in Europe during 2004. We are planning for up to 10,000 people to attend this participatory event, which will include elements of Japanese culture beyond food and drink.

The winner of the commission will have their artwork displayed on posters, tickets, notepaper, T shirts, the official website, and other advertising material for the festival. Authorship of the work will be acknowledged on this material where possible. The commissioned artist will also be provided free with a stall to promote their artwork, or items they wish to sell at the festival, which will be held in the summer of 2004.

The brief is: a female character shown from the waist/chest upwards wearing clothing clearly identifiable as Japanese, a yukata, or kimono perhaps. The character should be facing out of the picture and she should be holding or offering or eating an items/items of Japanese food. The artwork should be in full colour, the character should be cute but not too sexy she should be fresh, cool and full of energy. It is important that it is immediately obvious that she is Japanese and that the items she is eating/offering/holding are food (Japanese food). In that respect the image should be simple.

If artists have alternative ideas they are free to submit these bearing in mind the purpose of the image.

Delivered as a JPEG image, the largest size that the image will be reproduced at is A4 so if the image size is smaller than this it should be made possible to enlarge the image to A4 with no loss of quality. It is also essential that the image still has impact when it is reduced to fit on tickets and other media.

Artists may submit any number of complete pieces for consideration. The deadline for receipt is 31st October 2003 at 17.00. There are no restrictions of the age, gender, or ethnicity of artists.

Prior to the final selection the artists will retain ownership of all images. Japan Media Services Ltd, the organisers of the festival will own the copyright to the image only after the commission has been awarded. Japan Media Services Ltd is part of the Maeda Gakuen Group, a London based organisation that provides educational opportunities for the Japanese community in London.
