Stratovarius Split

Postby Power Metal Dom on Fri Apr 04, 2008 9:30 am

I don't think there's too many rocksoccers who give one but for a heavy metal band spanning 24 years they bloody should! I was rather hoping this to be a late April Fool's joke, however it seems Stratovarius are no more. Awful news for metal and power metallers alike, although the strangely named ”REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE” will be taking it's place; it seems that Tolkki didn't was to lose all the songs for the new album, and will be recording them with Michael Kiske and Tobias Sammet.

:( Sadness

Although I concur, Timo Tolki is a nutter (famously). Why he doesn't just pull a Jon Schaffer and sack everyone is unknown to me.

On a related note: Michael Kiske needs to just realise he's never getting away from metal...

In all honesty, the split was bound to happen: with the last decent Stratovarius album arguably being Infinity, Tolkki's explosive personality, and the solo-projects of some members (Kotipelto's project, at least, producing material superior to that of recent Stratovarius), one is almost glad that the band called it quits. Their performances were brilliant, however, and will be missed.

The handbags are currently out.

A statement from the rest of the band about the Stratovarius breakup:

They could just, y'know, rename the band...

"New Era" came out recently. Listening to it now. It's been critiqued as dull, repetitive and generic. But I found it a solid album with more than a fair share of catchy as hell songs. Not bad, but nothing new.
