Chaosoc stuff

Postby Keith on Wed Oct 12, 2005 7:37 pm

Hey folks,

Just incase anyone missed the emails, Chaosoc is having a pub crawl tomorrow (Thursday 13th), meet us at 8pm in the union foyer.

Dr Olsen presents "Cutting oranges; or what is volume?" - the first Chaosoc lecture of the year in maths theatre D at 4pm on Thursday 27th October. Followed by wine reception.

- Thursday 27th October

Take an orange, cut it up into a finite number of pieces, stick it all back together again and what do you get? Two oranges! Both the same size as the original orange, and without any holes in. A neat way of solving world hunger you might think, but it's a bit more involved than that. Come and find out how to double the size of a block of gold, or turn a pea into a planet the size of Jupiter!

Non memebers are welcome at both events!

See you there!

And some more...

EGM
Due to our treasurer and social convener leaving the committee, we now
have these positions available. If you would like to stand for either of
these positions or would like any information about what this requires
then please reply to this e-mail and we'll be in touch. The EGM will be
held directly after Dr. Olsen's lecture, where a candidate for each of
the positions will be elected.

CHRISTMAS DINNER
It may seem a bit early, but tickets for the Christmas dinner will be on
sale after Dr Olsen's Lecture/EGM and at various times in the maths
building. The dinner this year is in the Byre Theatre at 8pm on Tuesday
13th December. Tickets cost £15 for members and £20 for non-members,
including a three course meal and wine on your table, so bring along a
few friends for this bargain too! Menus will be available when tickets
are being sold. Tickets must be bought in advance and always sell quickly,
as this event is always extremely popular - so don't leave it too late!
