surfingsimon - I'm not sure how computer literate you are, but I know of many friends (well over 20) who still continue to use Kazaa Lite - so I assume that a lot of people in the university still use it. Personally, I don't hanmmer it, just the odd song here and there - but I know of people who do, and still get high connection speeds.

I regularly get 150kb/sec on Kazaa Lite.

I reckon well over half the people I know with a connection still use kazaa lite. It seems to be something that even people with no clue about the internet can use quite happily.

Then of course there is that other p2p prog that works even better...anyway, point is that the amount of bandwidth being used must be pretty huge and it certainly isn't in a few isolated cases. The few isolated cases are probably the people that never download. Blocking ports didn't effect downloading at all I wouldn't think.

ITS recieve £12,000 from DRA alone, as our £50 is included in the residence bill. There are 4 buildings now, soon to be another 4. £24,000. Then possbly more. This is only one hall - ITS must be bringing in plenty of cash for the connections in rooms alone.

It's only £50, the other £40 is for RESTEL. And everyone pays because everyone has access to computers, pc rooms, and an rcr to help you out. Which is fair enough, the £40 for restel doesn't seem so fair however.

Depends on your hall, if you really want to spend the first two weeks looking at and fixing over 30 computers on the other hand...

It's just a scam by ITS so they can employ less people - they just get schmuks to do it all for not having to pay £50. RCR's should get paid properly relative to the amount of work they do.

How much work does a computer rep usually do. I know in sallies, all the new rep this year has done is fill the printer with paper. He's been given the task of looking of updating our website over the summer. I might develope some ideas too, as I'm thinking of running next year.
