upgrade advice??

Postby a_walrus on Tue Mar 29, 2005 1:32 am

Hey,
at the mo I'm running:
Athlon XP 2400+, 512MB PC2700 RAM, ATi Radeon 8500LE on a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP Ultra. Also computer is one noisy little gimp so looking at spending £200 with the goal of improving performance (esp in games and photo editing - Photoshop just toooo slow as it is!) and reducing noise.
On the noise front I'm thinking Antec Sonata case which comes with 350W Ante PSU (~£80) which should solve noise problem cos my PSU is cheap and noisy (took bad advice when building2yrs ago:-(

But in terms of performance what do u recommend I upgrade for the £120 I'll have left? (FYI the GA-7VAXP Ultra supports up to Athlon XP 3000+, 3GB DDR400 and AGP8x)

thanks

Yeah you can!

[I'm going to be getting one (along with 3200+ and A8N-SLI! :-D ) ]

(Just put 6600GT into the refine search box) They range from £102 - £158. So maybe get cheapish one of those - the gigabyte ones are supposed to be good & quiet, for £127

For a good round up of some makes of 6600GT see here : http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvi ... efault.asp
(I've got more 6600GT links if you want them, but just googleing it should be enough if that link isn't)
