Can run everything well except Doom 3, for which I really need a G5. Mmmmmm.... G5......

I'd like a G5 PowerBook myself... (OK, any G5 would be nice!)

How do you find out your computer specs? Where on the computer is the information stored?

If you go into Control Panel and click on system it's open the system properies window which gives a brief bit of info like your operating system, CPU, ammount of RAM etc. If you click on the Hardware tab and then on the Device Manager button it'll open a list of all devices on your PC from Hard drives, network adaptors, USB devices, etc. Hope that helps.

Another question (sorry to be a pain, but just want to check). I've bought components for new PC and want to transfer data (non system, ie music, video etc) from existing IDE drive onto new SATA drive and then reinstall XP onto IDE one.

To clear it, currently have C drive = system and will be removed and kept as might put back with old bits later, E drive (IDE) has music etc on and will become system drive with new XP instal, and new SATA drive will be for music, video, games etc. But can't instal SATA drive into current setup as doesnt support it and not sure if can copy between drives before instal XP onto E drive. Hope that makes sense.

So what I want to know i suppsoe is, can I:

A) copy old drive to new one before installing XP onto old one using BIOS?, or
B) copy it all onto current C drive, format E, install onto new system with XP, and then add old C drive and copy files across. (so will it be ok that it'll still have old version of XP on it? I assume it'll just ignore it as long as it's not booting from it and i'll be able to read data as normal?)

Sorry if that doesnt make much sense, but help would be very much appriciated as I cant setup new PC until I can figure it out!

G5 power books aren't going to happen for a while, the chips run too hot at the moment. I'd settle for a dual 2.7. With 8GB of RAM. Ludicrous!

I'd rather take one of these;

(Torque SLI)

Or I could go with the PowerMac G5 and virtual PC so that it doesn't matter when Windows goes boom. ;D

I wondered how long before the "mac-bashing" started (even if it's in a very mild form at the moment).

And to be fair those pc specs aren't the best.

I'm jesting :P More interesting though is that it appears that two of the next-gen consoles will use G5 chips.

How wouldn't be getting one of the quad cores would he? Now they really are ludicrous. 16 gigs of RAM?! 512 graphics, why it'll actually run Doom 3!

He's only getting 4GB and the nVidia 6600. The Quadra 4500 is stupidly expensive.

Yeah. His monitor arrived today, but the actual computer won't be arriving for a while.

He's been stumbling along with a dual 1.25GHz G4, but CS2 is just slow on it. The thing you have to remember is that some of those posters out front are almost 1GB just for the file- the actual working set in memory and in scratch is far, far higher.

They could be done with smaller files that would be faster, but then we would probably end up as we did before Oli started- with posters that were actually just blown up fliers.

Did he get an Apple monitor as well? I suppose if you want to work with RAW pics you need a ludicrous computer.

Only the 20". If we were in the US, we would have got one of the DELL ones that are on amazing coupon deals over there, but in the UK they only appear a bit cheaper than the normal Apple retail price, but we get at least 15% off the standard Apple price, which makes it cheaper than DELL.
