Right - this is a long shot, do any of you fine geezers know about Sony PSP Firmware downgrading?

I've looked around the intereweb already - just wondering if anyone knows anymore/has tried downgrading firmware on these things, to get emmulators working not to rip off new games before anyone starts!

My psp is arriving today or tomorrow at home.

Firmware 1.5 is the firmware that can run homebrew apps, emulation and legal iso's.

You can downgrade versions up to 2.00 down to 1.5 for this ability. Sony has caught on and has introduced new firmwares to block this. 2.01, 2.5, 2.6 cannot be downgraded at the moment. People are working on it. What version do you have?

Bad luck getting 2.01.

The first PSP which arrived was firmware 2.5. It was swiftly returned.. and I found a uk site selling a japanese 1.51. Not sure what the warranty will be like though, if anything was to go wrong.

As you said..it shouldn't be too long until the loaders arrive for 2.01+.

I was under the impression that the warranty's fairly world wide on these things, and i've also read that some folk that have bricked them have even managed to return them. That might very well be bollocks though coz it's something i read on a forum somewhere.

1.51's a good shout - i *think* you still need to downgrade to play homebrew stuff, though it's meant to be very easy

Within one hour of owning the 1.51 it was upgraded to 2.00(required first) and downgraded to 1.5.

The downgrade involved pretty much crashing the thing and it restored some settings to make it run 1.5.

I have a 1gb High Speed DUO filled to the brim of apps, emulators, mp3 players + visualizations, shoutcast radio streaming, linux, but my windows 95 attempt was a failure, as I lost patience!

Keep an eye out on PSPradio (Wireless shoutcast streaming). Wonderful little program that they can get to run on 2.00 now. Hopefully soon 2.01+
