Ports...again

Postby Power Metal Dom on Mon May 01, 2006 12:28 am

I can't play at http://www.runescape.com/.

A screen comes up telling me...

Error 105 - Unable to connect to game server.
Runescape was unable to connect to the game server. This is most likely caused by a firewall blocking the connection. To resolve this:

# If you have firewall or security software installed please ensure RuneScape/Java is allowed to open outgoing network connections on ports 43594 and port 43595.

# Note windows-XP service pack 2 has built in firewall software. If when loading RuneScape this asks if you want to allow the connection, you need to say 'yes'.

# If that doesn't help then an external firewall may be causing the problem. Please ask your network adminstrator/ISP to open ports 43594 and 43595 for TCP traffic.

I tried freeing up those ports and turning off my firewall but it didn't work. What else can I do if anything?

Are there ANY MMORPGs that will work on the network?

I can't help you with any of those problems, but I think Guild Wars works...though I would need to boot in Windows to check (and find someone else with the game, I'm guessing) and I can't be arsed.

There is a way of making the downloadable .exe Runescape client work. But I won't tell you here.

I have guild wars. It works for me in any case.

Don't mention the Nazi's!
Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

Step 1. Go to ITS
Step 2. Leave ITS
Step 3. Curse Resnet
Step 4. Destroy ITS
Step 5. Unblock Resnet

Please note: only step 3 is recomended

You can request a port is opened here:

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/its/resnet/firewall.shtml

Unless you have a very good reason for a port to be opened though, it's probably not going to happen.
