56K dial up modem baby! I got myself a cheapie USB modem from ebay, got a ResTel account and added the long series of numbers ( *72* + pac number hash 9 ) to the start of a free pay per min local call ISP (example I'm using is 0845 123 2000, username "free" password "internet").

Use an iMac or get a non-student friend to connect your laptop/pc. QED.

Do you get full 56k speeds out of ResTel then?

They also specify Students are NOT to connect LapTops or PC's thus get a non-student to connect them.
PC usually means IBM PC compatible.

From Wikipedia:PC usually means IBM PC compatible.
I was going by that definition. My 2nd point about non-students is still valid. Though that does raise the question of whether a student could connect a server (which wouldn't normally be thought of as a PC) to ResTel.
