Final Gaming Event and AGM

Postby Fawksie on Mon Apr 21, 2008 11:15 pm

Hi WiredSoc Members,

First of all, because I know the massive block of text below will make you tune out, we are having our Final Gaming Event on Sunday the 27th of April at 1pm in Venue 2. It's the usual gig, Sins Of A Solar Empire, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Unreal Tournament, Crysis, Dawn Of War, random Xbox 360 games and anything else you want to bring with you (and we have time to play).

More importantly, our AGM will take place on Tuesday the 29th of April at 6pm in the Union TV Room. Please come along even if you don't intend to stand for a committee position, the more votes the better. Likewise if you have anything new you want to bring to the society, any ideas or criticisms, this is a good time to let everyone discuss them.

All the committee positions are up for election, here's a brief outline:

Executive:
President
The President chairs committee meetings, makes sure things get done, and does them if they're not getting done.
Vice President
The Vice President assists the President, and takes over their role if they suspiciously disappear or are deemed "incompetent" by the rest of the committee. It could happen. Also known as the tea boy.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes of meetings, writing letters, and answering general queries. Secretarial stuff, really.
Treasurer
The Treasurer looks after the Society's bank account, oversees money coming in and going out, keeps the books in order and makes unreasonable budget demands of the Union.

Ordinary:
Chief System Administrator
The Godfather of the society. Nothing works for very long without the Chief SysAdmin, or his say-so. Responsible for maintaining and upgrading the various servers. Has some important looking keys.
Assistant System Administrators (2)
The Assistant System Administrators assist the Chief SysAdmin in the upkeep and expansion of the Society's computers. Oddly enough.
Trainee System Administrator
The Trainee SysAdmin helps the other SysAdmins to administer the Society's computers, and will be trained in this art to one day become a Real SysAdmin.
Events Co-ordinator
The Events Co-ordinator is responsible for organising the Society's events (including Gaming Events and talks), booking venues and speakers, and thinking up new and exciting events to hold.
Communications Officer
The Communications Officer is responsible for advertising the Society and any events the Events Co-ordinator comes up with.
Website Co-ordinator
The Website Co-ordinator is responsible for maintaining the Society's web pages, and ensuring that our members' web pages conform to our terms and conditions.
Gaming Co-ordinator
The Gaming Co-ordinator administrates the various gaming servers we run for members' use, organises semi-regular evening gaming sessions and decides which games we're going to try to make people play at Gaming Events.
First Year Rep
The First Year Rep is the first point of contact for first year and newly matriculated students, and voices their comments and concerns to the rest of the committee.

If you have any questions about what the committee does, feel free to leave a message here, e-mail committee@wired.st-and.ac.uk, find us on IRC in channel #welcome at wired.st-and.ac.uk (or http://wired.st-and.ac.uk/Other/IRC) or come along to our next committee meeting on Wednesday the 23rd at 8pm in DRA.

Thanks!
