Venue 1 gaming day

Postby RichZ on Thu Jan 29, 2004 9:38 am

Right, I know I mentioned this on the main board in some other thread but I thought it would be best to mention it on here.

The idea was for a few or more, of us to meet up in Union one day before semester two starts and hook up some gaming machine be it PC, PS2, XBox etc to projector and play on big screen. We could also put a film/TV on if we prefered.

I was just wondering who would be up for it? And if so what you want to do. Because we could take our PCs in and link up with switch or whatever and play on mini network, taking in turns on big screen? Or just PS2 etc? What do people think?

Also WHEN do people want to do it? I thought this Saturday would be good?

i'm definitely up for it, but not this weekend.
i'm free all next week though!!

i'm easy as to what we do, not a lot of point just playing network games cos we can do that on resnet anyway, although it'd be good to play while actually being able to shout at people!

OK, so is it OK for everyone on Monday say?

And would we all bring in PCs? or what? I don't have PS2 etc, only N64 (but I do have goldeneye!) but only 3 controllers!

So what do you fancy? PCs or console?

pc's of course! plus any decent consoles. i only have a playstation one and a dreamcast, so not a lot of use really.
i think we should try and spread the word, make sure everyone that might want to go knows about it.

Sorry Alex! But as Niall said - next semester will be pretty busy - we could maybe do it some day - we'll have to see.

Right OK lets make something definate (subject to change [maybe, but hopefully not]) we will do it on Monday the 2nd Feb. OK? Will can get in any time I think, whats best for everyone - start after lunch maybe? With PCs if you can be bothered to bring them, and if you have a console then bring that too if you ahev good games, and controllers. I'll try and get there for 1:30, and if everyone else is there from then too, we can play hopefully.

p.s. If any one has a long VGLA cable (I think thats what they are - monitor cable to connect to projector) that'd be good - a small one if not, would do.

We also need a switch if anyone can provide?

i *think* i have a VGA cable, but it's not that long, i'll have to look for it.
i'll bring an 8-port hub, so if anyone else has one bring it along and we can daisy-chain them if necessary. i'll bring my PC too.

OK, so the plan is:
I'll get into V1 straight after lunch, in order to set few things up, if everyone can arrive some time after that (ie 1:30 onwards) then we can get started. If you bring your PCs (is what we seem to have decided on?) and maybe any console you think would be good too.

Just as a disclaimer thing: we will be responsable for whatever we bring into the union, so in the unlikely event of something breaking or god forbid stolen then it's our own fault not the unions. OK? Probablly obvious, but thought I better say just incase.

See you all there. Any questions you can email me on rz4 or phone on 5712.

Cheers.

ps don't forget to bring you games CDs etc!
