UT2004

Postby fragger rock on Wed Feb 18, 2004 7:42 pm

Just thought you might like to know that there is a demo out for UT2004 that you can play multiplayer online with.

Of course that's no excuse for not owning UT2003.

Team games? Pffft. Every man/woman/child for themselves god damn. Far more therapeutic.

Everyone who is rubbish at it says that - can't take the embarrassment seemingly.

that’s plain wrong. I was an ace UT player - i mean really good... like so good it was sad. i could thump through a level with 'godlike' bots no problem.

as for UT2003 it just didn’t have it - it was more of a cartoon that a pure shooter.

However, as for the demo of 2004 - i have it installed so if you want a game use windows messenger to contact me and ill play.

i'm with simon on this one, UT2003 didn't have the feel of the original which i enjoyed playing (online especially) immensely. if a sequel isn't as easily accessible as an original then i tend not to like it much.

what's 2004 like? is it worth the download?

There's no accounting for taste, especially when UT2003 was the internationally acclaimed one. I'm more inclined to believe that those who play wolf too much just aren't as good at a game of UT2003's much faster pace and style.

Yeah, people who say Unreal was better than UT2003 are generally crap at UT2003.

Unreal was an excellent single player game and graphically superb when it came out, still is. But it's multiplayer wasn't that good. Quake was way ahead of it in that area which is why they made the UT series. UT2003 is a superb game which is one of the most played online games over the past few years. It kicks Quake's ass in my opinion and is far better than games like wolf.

People who say stuff like wolf is better only don't like it cos' it's too fast for them, certainly in my experience. They get fragged to much hehe. And with ID not releasing any new titles til' Doom 3, which I think will be more of a single player experience anyway - just good graphics do not a good multi-player game make - UT2004 when it comes out will have the market open to itself. At least until Half Life 2 comes out, but again that will be a slower game.

Nothing like a fast paced shooter like UT.

Original UT is the better game. UT2k3 is just a graphics fest. It feels slow after UT. It got somethings right, like changing the sniper rifle to the lightning gun but losing assault mode was criminal.

I personally suspect 2k4's addition of the vehicles was what they had in mind all along and that 2k3 was an unecessary sequel.

And Quakes weapons, any Quake, just don't compare.

UT2003 feels slow compared to the first UT.... uh-huh. The only reason that it would feel slow is if your PC is too crap to run it fast.

UT2003 is a much faster game than the original UT. As for the graphics, yes they are excellent - but you can't say a game like that is just for the gfx. Why can't we have a good shooter that also looks good. It's not against the law.

And as for people not being able to run it... come on. The engine is like 2 years old or something. UT2004 uses the same graphics engine so you should be able to run it just fine . I mean sheesh, it only requires about 1GHz and a 32Mb gfx card to run it well never mind just being able to. Surely people who are into games like this would have a decent PC to run them on, although some people seem to prefer useless spoilers for their fiat punto's and the like :P

UT2003 is a great game. UT2004 builds on that. Can't wait to play the final version which will have all the mutators etc. Bring on instagib!

One thing I'll say about UT 2004 is that Atari's at least got something right!

Finally, they're going to release the game on DVD-ROM (OK, they'll still do CD-ROM). Common sense at last, as opposed to mindless tedium of having to swap to CD 1,2,3, etc. How long have DVD-ROM drives been around?

I hope other companies will see such sense and dump CD-ROM for big games
